Stingray 5 Club!

Apologies if double-posting.
I am in love with mine.
SR Classic 5H 2018, charcoal sparkle finish.

Birthday present for my wife...not delivered yet...and she didn't even notice it's standing right in front of her in her practice corner (see 2nd pic) :roflmao:

Her birthday is on the 19th...but in that very day we'll be across the sea on our way to Sicily on vacation, I'm still undecided whether to give her before we leave as she wouldn't have enough time to enjoy it, or keep it for when we return home.

Maybe you should print the photo that you posted, with the bass circled, and give her that when you're on your way home. What a coming-home surprise that would be!

New arrival - a 2015 HH in some kinda blue. Not sure how I feel about the pickguard yet.

Ya know, I just bought a Stingray Special 5H a week ago and it’s Frost Green with a solid black pickguard as yours on the left. I mentioned to my girlfriend one evening that I was considering changing the pickguard to one like yours on the right.
She immediately said, “please don’t”. Really? “Yes, it will make the front look too busy and I think that’s the best-looking bass you own”

Wow! And fair enough. The black pickguard stays!….:D

I know it’s an SBMM, but it definitely has that Stingray tone and it is playing good after some setup tweaking today.

Wow, Sounds nice!

I was SO close to buying that exact model in the exact color but opted to get something different from what I currently have. Without going into details, I'm now QUITE impressed by Sire. But, as a hardcore Stingray fan, that video does make me second guess my decision at least a little bit.

These basses don’t break the bank. Maybe you can one and a Sire too. SBMM responds really well to a good setup.

True. So, SO true. :D

I bought a "lower priced" bass because I wanted to have a "lower priced" bass" that I could take to outdoor gigs or into other situation where I didn't want to take a good any of my good ones. But I do always prefer to have a backup bass in case of a problem. That rationale makes complete sense to me, but I had to apply for and get a variance :D to buy the Sire since that one put me above my agreed to five-bass maximum. The SBMM would get me up to seven. Gonna be a tough sell.

Lose your pride and beg!:D

If you’re thinking about changing the pickguard on the new one, what would you think about a blue abalone? I think a white pearl would look pretty nice, too.

But I also think the pickguard you have on it now looks great, too.

Thanks! Its ok. Honestly I never liked moto too much. White would be cool if the pickup covers were white with chrome knobs. Black seems like the best choice. I got the bass mainly because its blue and relatively unstained maple.:smug: And I needed a second HH for different tunings my band is using. One is in C standard and the other drop A.

Comparing the sounds of the two, I definitely like the alnico and eq bands on the pre special better. Mids are honkier, treble bites more, and the bass is less boomy but still sufficiently bassy. They don’t sound that different hovering around the detents. At the extremes of the eq they diverge. I have a feeling I would like a ceramic version best of the three. If I can find one I might let the special go.
