I thought it was 2008 as well for alnico. I reached out to EBMM support and they told me it shipped with Alnico. Yours is a beauty as well!Well, what a kind thing to s.... oh ... you were talking about the bass.
Obviously you were talking about the bass. I'm aged well past the point of ever being called a fine specimen again. LOL However, the bass IS., and yes, I AM flipping over that one. That's my favorite EBMM finish and and I own your bass's twin - a 2007 Honeyburst 5HH! Although I thought the 2008's are the first ones that came with alnico pickups? Did some 2007's get them?
Here's my lovely. It's actually my co-number one with my Stingray Special and my Big Al, but I've had this one far longer than those two and it has it a special place in my heart.
Interesting, looks like I learned my new thing for the day. 
Yours is one of the variations I'm still interested in trying someday, from the years between my ceramic and the current Specials (which, coincidentally, are the two variations I own!).

Thank you for posting this!! That thing is so cool! Feels just whacky enough to be timeless. I bet the tonal options are pretty sick too. Yes, they ARE super cool, and in multiple ways - sound, versatility, looks, and build quality. It's a shame they didn't sell well enough to be in production for more than a few years, but I get that they're a little "out there" for most people. To be honest, they are for me, too. Except for this one, every other bass I've owned was very conservative looking and almost all have been bursts. I was lucky to have gotten this one and I couldn't pass it up when it basically dropped into my lap.
Yeah….i can’t imagine passing up an instrument like that either.
I'm happy to geek out over BIg Al's, but I'll PM you a reply rather than taking up space in a Stingray thread.

On the left is the 2019 Special in Vintage Tobacco Burst with aftermarket tort pickguard. On the right is the the 2007 in the lovely Honeyburst. They're an amazing pair of basses!

I'm probably in a small minority of Stingray fans who doesn't use the single H tone very often. I've always owned and played HH's specifically because I really like a couple of the coil combinations I get from the HH.
But I gotta admit that the single H is a great tone in the right hands. That sounded fantastic.

Long story short, I am on the hunt for an EB MM stingray 5 ceramic pick up and pcb(preamp) circa 1999/2000 as MM do not produce or stock those anymore.
I would prefer to keep this bass original rather than go the after market route.
Unfortunately after a botched series of operations by so called guitar repairers the pcb (according to the last guy I’ve taken it too) is unrepairable. The PU still works but was never quite the same after it got rewound after it got damaged changing the cover.
So I’m putting it out there to any of you out there that have gone down the after market road and happen to still have the PU and pre and are willing to part with them for a fair price I would be very interested to hear from you.
I have had this bass from new and has been my number 1 instrument for 25 years so no need to tell you about history/sentimentality etc.

Keep a look out for a donor parts bass that is physically beat up but with good working parts. You might need it .
Great idea, you can be sure I’ll be doing that, unfortunately they don’t come up very often in the land down under.
I know you don’t want to try aftermarket, but maybe it’s worth it to get your favorite bass up and running?
I have not personally tried, but many people seem to like Seymour Duncan, Delano, Aguilar, or Nordstrand pickups and various preamps.
I have a John East 3 band sitting on my desk that I want to install in a OLP Tony Levin signature bass.
The pickup is Alnico and I imagine that it’s maybe a bit warmer than my EBMM SR5 but there are so many other variables.
I hear the East MM preamp is more like the original two band preamp with an additional mid control, but I haven’t tried it yet.
Im not precious about keeping it all original, it’s more that I’m not very knowledgeable with what’s available and what combinations of after market PUs play nicely with the various preamps. It seemed the path of least resistance to replace like for like, plus I love the original sound- Phat and punchy. I thought I’d put it out there to see what came back.
I was told the Seymore Duncan ceramic pu and pre sounds good but you can’t switch between series, parallel and single.
Id appreciate if someone could verify or debunk that.
I do quite like the tonal variation with the switching but its not be a deal breaker.

If you can’t find good replacement onboard preamp , get yourself one of these . They have both a 2 band and 3 band option.

If you plugged a stingray bass into a manta ray pedal does that mean you get an uber ray or is it too much of a good thing?

I recently picked up a used Stingray 5H (pre special) at my local music store. Love this bass. Like it so much that I'm thinking of adding a new Stingray special 5h or 5hh to my collection. My concern though the revoiced preamp on the specials. I've heard it described as more "polite." What does this mean? I love on on my 5h the treble control is voiced at a really high frequency. From what I hear on youtube demos, it seems EB has moved the frequency center lower to match industry trends. I absolutely hate the way most modern treble controls are voice at 3-5 k. Very harsh for boosting. Are my concerns valid?
Joined the club today with this guy: a 2013 lefty Stingray 5! My first stingray (I had a bongo years and years ago). First impressions: I dig it. I’m replacing a Warwick Streamer lx5 with this. It is more comfortable for me than the streamer, and I prefer the tone. The B string is better too. I thought I would replace the pick guard, maybe with a tortoise guard, but the black pearl is growing on me.
I will say it’s not as bright and aggressive as I expected. Not that I need it to be, list a little surprised how not aggressive it is. I know it’s got the Alnico pickup, so that will tame it a little. I’m sure stainless strings would brighten it up a little if I really want to go there.
Also the different pickup settings seem pretty subtle to my ear. Not complaining, just something I noticed.

Is single coil mode quieter on the pre Special 5H? I've only had an HS 5 string to compare to my Special 5H. The Special there is a pretty big volume drop in single coil
I like the pick guard BTW
That is a great finish !! I’d go with a white pearl or aged cream pearl pickguard. The black pearl looks good on it now .
