Stoner/Doom Bassists 51: Back To The Future

Sorry to chime in...Drug tests are garbage. I don't think most employers care what you do on your own time as long as you come in and do a good job. The drug tests are merely to suck the insurance companies d!cks and get a cut on rates. What I don't get is how you can have a medical marijuana card and not get a job cause you fail the drug test. If I were a pill zombie I could get a job cause I have a prescription for vicodin, oxy or whatthefxckever. Total BS.

You nailed it. It has nothing to do with the law, just a way to get a break on insurance, workers comp etc.

and id probably rather get drug tested than listen to Clutch. YEAH!
Hey! We agree on something!! I`m not trashing Clutch,I just can`t get into them. Even after a few different tries. Different strokes for different folks.
and i agree with everything you said. i have no issue with pot smoking, its something i dont do, but its a lot safer than drinking which is legal. so yeah, i think youre spot on.

although im not sure how many people safely use meth/heroin/cocaine. again this always goes back to pot, you dont see anyone pushing for the legalization of any specific drug, aside from weed. at least i dont? lol
I used to be a heavy pot smoker from 18 to 23. Then I pretty much stopped. I`ll be 32 in April. It`s been a while since I`ved smoked last but I still have the same feelings towards drug testing. :scowl:

I`m sure you havent heard too many people voicing their use(responsible or not) of harder drugs like meth, cocaine and heroin. It`s not that because they don`t exist but because of the negative connotations our society places on those substances and the "junkies" that use them.
In our culture any use is abuse,so they keep quite about their drugs of choice. Not every hard drug user is a sketchy, tweaked out, strung out, dope fiend ready to blow strangers for the next fix.

Off topic again, I bought a Hercules 5 guitar/bass stand online today. It had the best reviews from 3 different web stores. And you can also buy add on kits to fit up to 3 more guitar/basses on the stand. I thought that was a handy feature, start with room for 5 and if your collection grows the stand will keep up and hold 8. That`s with thinner electrics,as hollowbody types will eat up more space.

I smoke pot several times a week.

I own my own home, married/kids, good job, etc.

But I understand that my responsibilities as an adult are first. I don't ever smoke when I'm doing anything related to my job. The ganj is still illegal and I HAVE to be aware of the inherent risks in partaking in illegal activites.

If you can't be clean for a job drug test THEN YOU HAVE A REAL PROBLEM. I mean, ****, all you have to do is either, 1) buy a kit and quit for a couple days, or 2) quit for a bit longer. If you are unable to do that then you have no business smoking pot.

Work is voluntary (haha, sorta) - Where you work is YOUR choice. If you decide to work for a place that does testing than that's YOUR choice. As an employee yuo are a representative of your company. If you get busted/arrested, your ass shows up on the internet as someone arrested for drug use/possession. That's bad PR for your company, whether you like it or not. It's in the companies best interest, PR and $$, to hire the people they think will work efficiently and not cause them any problems when they're off the clock.

I'm sure some statements sound a bit hypocritical/clashing, but whatever, I'm a giant box of **** that doesn't make sense. :)

I don't care what drug you're taking - Just don't be a dippoopie about it.

Dude, you have no idea how stoked I am to be able to run two full stacks together! It wasn`t even my original intent to end up with two. I had old 115 paired with my SVT-350 and then I bought my 410 like 7 years ago. Last year I got my 300Pro tube head(which I love!!). Then 3 months ago I bought a used 115 for cheap to match with the other one(a side effect from hanging out here)for 215 radness. Then last week I randomly saw the matching 410 on ebay, which my wonderful GF gave to me as my b-day gift. After years of buying gear it`s finally all come together!

The other day I was thinking about selling the 15`s to make some room in the house when a light bulb went off in my noggin`. "Jeeze,I`ve got a lot of stuff here in the house.I might even have enough for two stacks. ............. ............I`ve....got....two....STACKS!!!!!!"
So in preparation I bought a new power cord for my amp,2 new speaker cables and that Radial Bigshot to spit my signal.
I`m going to dust off my VT Deluxe and put that in front of the SVT(the VT pedal sounds more like a real SVT than the STV-350 does) and the 215`s for my clean side. I`ll run my effects thru the 300pro/810. At least that`s the plan. I might try and run both amps dirty, each with a different effect.

I know what you mean...

This was taken 4/27/2012, so that was close to a year ago, I was running only one 215, only dreaming of getting a second 215.

And now I'm running this...

Church of Misery rule!
The starting point depends on what kind of vocals you dig more...
The changed singers for nearly each album.
I listen to them for years and the early works compilation and "the second coming" realy grew on me.
Their split with Acrimony is also great.

Not to detract from the drug testing convo. But OldCrow, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the ECG? I'm really thinking of putting in an order, but I wanted to hear some more thoughts on one by an actual owner.

Ha sorry I meant to respond when you asked earlier and got distracted by work.

It's a maple body and so far it's awesome! Plays great though I'm still working on getting higher tension strings on there, the action is more sensitive to string gauge as there's no truss rod, so trying to find a good balance.

Construction, fit and finish are all spot on and sonically it's a monster, as Beebass said it is pushing a ton more low end than my J was and my 35 year old speakers aren't happy about it. There's a lot of attack and bite in the tone, it's not a Ric with flats ;) and unplugged it's loud as all get out and just sings. Sits really well in a two guitar band mix too. Sorry I'm terrible with reviews, if there's anything else you want to know just ask

Some of us aren't in perfect health here. I've been having back issues since January'12. There is no way I will ever test clean for thc again. I'm lucky that my job has a lax policy. I wish I could smoke for fun again. Good news, I'm not on opioids.

New pedal/pet day!!!
I have the best girlfriend. I was selling a bass and she was selling a few extra animal cages. So we met the people at a McDonalds parking lot. My guy came early to get his bass, then a guy and girl came to get the cages, then he pulls out a box and she says here is an early birthday present for you, be careful when you open the box. I have a lizard GAS list and this was on it, sinc they are real pricey, and pricey stuff I usually reserve for music gear. A Mexican beaded lizard that is puppy dog tame. I thought how fitting that I got a Spanish named pedal El Oso and a Mexican beaded lizard on the same day. And sold a bass on top of everything, awesome night, especially for a Monday lol.

Congrats on the new pedal and the new lizard! That guy is awesome looking.

Do you have any chameleons? I always thought they were really neat lizards, but I've read they are difficult to take care of in captivity.

Double thanks, he is so cool looking, and so slow moving, mellow. That sort of difficult care requirements is why I don't have any Chameleons. Plus they are very timid and scare easily and we like to keep critters that are fine with lots of handling. I do think they Chameleons are gorgeous and so interesting, the most pet worthy ones are the Jackson's chameleons, they can tolerate a bit of handling. I had wanted a Gila Monster or its closest cousin the Mexican beaded lizard for years. And my girlfriend said she could see how my eyes light up whenever we see one at a reptile show.

These are all things I like to hear. Did you have Kevin set up the bass with a specific string/tuning in mind or did it just come stock and now you're switching around to see what you like?

Real stoked to hear about the big low end, everyone always focuses on the treble/attack (which is a unique and sweet aspect of the aluminum basses). Also knowing it works well in a 2 guitar mix is good, as bongripper has a pretty dense mix, so having some extra bite and such to help stand out in the mix is definitely a plus.

Thanks for the info!

I think he pretty much only carries 100s and at the time I ordered that was fine but thanks to that fvck Beebass my band decided to tune down to C# (oh big men I know...) and my dumbass didn't think about it until later. It's funny the bite and low end make it sound scooped but it really isn't that scooped.

Also the case it comes with is very nice and he usually quotes with shipping. All said for a completely custom instrument it's very fairly priced

I sent Kevin what strings I want on my bass and told him the tuning I play in so he's going to set it up accordingly.

Samsquanch, I guess you're not very worried about the beaded lizard being venomous? How often do you get bit by your lizards?

Yeah my girlfreind was trying to surprise me and did a lot of research first before getting a venomous animal especially since we have a 5 year old running around the house. Lock on it's cage of course and no other animals out at the same time so it doesn"t get scared or what to eat something lol. But I would never own a venomous snake, these guys are different, they have to not just bite they have to want to envenomate what they are biting. Since they are fed a diet of prekilled food, they lose the desire to envenomate their prey since no need to. A warning snip will not envenomate you either and even that would be very rare. Plus this one is just uber mellow, the guy we got him from was almost in tears giving her up, since he was downsizing his collection, he said she is tame as a kitten and held her all the time and sent us tons of pictures of her on his chest and in his lap. So yeah I am as careful as can be but it's not like owning a cobra or a rattlesnake, which I would never do. Oh an in general not very often have I been bitten by snakes or lizards. A couple baby snake bites, till they tame down, I have own boa that tagged me because I almost dropped him and scared him, my bad though, and it didn"t hurt. The funny thing is the ones that bite most often are some of the little geckos which doesn't really hurt. So yeah in my collection it is really rare to get bit by anything.
