That being said, tuning to low F was the bane of my existence for the first 6 years Bongripper existed (it was my idea to do that tuning). It took me a long time to get the right bass/string/amp/cab/pedal combos.

Now that things are working great, naturally I ordered a new bass last night.

Anyone with a vintage Ric experience and/or know about cracks in the finish on the neck near the headstock, starting near the nut and going at an angle down to the back of the neck. Roughly 1.5inches in length. Something common? I've got my eye on a 75 Fireglo at a local shop, but the crack scares me. I think he wants $1500, but he's known for over pricing and then coming down a lot on price.

It's in decent shape for a '75, with some paint wear near where your thumb would rest, and some typical dings/nicks here and there. No horseshoe cover. Original pickups. Any suggestions on what I should pay/what it's worth? Ebay prices seem a bit all over the place.

If the crack is just the finish and the wood is fine then you should be fine. I use clear nail polish every once in a while to seal any cracks or where the finish is worn to keep moisture out but that's it. 1500 is a bit steep so if they don't come down I'd pass.

Also Ron is looking to sell his Ric...just saying :)

That doesn't sound common. If its the only crack mark on the whole bass I might worry. Snap some pics next time you go in.

I had a similar crack in my warlock. The tech filled it with super glue and it's still fine 11years later. The crack was in tbe wood, not just the finish.
