Agreed. We can all get the volume from one of these custom order cab makers. But some of us like giant stacks. For me it's a different feel...even as a concert goer, to see lots of cabs. It is aesthetically pleasing. We are guilty to some extent, eh? But look at our basses, different as can be. And maybe certain "tools" just work the best. Remember when Dunwich was talking about the newer orange guitar gear being weak (especially in comparison to the vintage stuff)? That might be some fanboyism with orange. But, maybe we just need certain gear to make it work. Volume is apart of doom as keyboards are a part of new wave. You mentioned strings but, we got flats, rounds, nickel, ss, chromes... I don't know if gear is a good genre definer. Even Graveyard on tour only used halfstacks.

Any of us slapping in our bands? Is not slapping part of the stereotype? You know what I mean?

But, can I get the same exact tone as my boomy yamaha 2-15 and the attack of the carvins out of the high volume customs? I think I have the best of both worlds. Bass, heard and felt. It punches you in the gut and while your bent over, slaps you in the groins. And, on a budget. I can't say if I could do that with a transparent cab or not, but I think I like the coloration of the cabs too much. So, I still say different strokes and if the groove and volume are truly there, I don't care what gets you there. I know you won't get there with these combos that TB seems to have circle jerks over. A dually would be cool if I could afford it... but I'd get a tube amp if I had that bread.

Also you guys talked about it earlier, I do have my keys hooked and wallet chained but that's my ocd security measure. I have not lost my keys or wallet since. :D

Just some bored thoughts. Time to check that band, Amo.

Damn, school made me miss everything...

Image isnt going to make me like your music if you suck or I just dont like your music, but of you have awesome gear, Im going to gawk at it.

I wear what I wear because I like it. whether its influenced by a culture or outside doesnt matter, whats matters is I like it.

The sound guy gawked at my Dually...then made fun of it. lol.

By the end of the show he was back to admiring.

I really do like big amps. I just don't like tiny speakers. lol. I know this just shows my lack of understanding of the fundamentals, but it's about pleasing me...not making sense to others.

I've purposely avoided "trendy" and hip gear in the past, but have ended up with a lot of it anyways. I had emperors for awhile because I got a good price on them and they were local, I sold them because they didn't sound good. I replaced them with the much TB hyped berg nv610 and it was the best decision I've made.

I bought a bunch of different tube amps and failed to connect with any of them really. It's coincidental I play a sunn head, I got it because I got a good deal and it could run 2 ohms and had a gain channel (which was something I wanted to mess with time).

Local Gibson dealer "it takes us forever to get Gibson basses in...they are usually gone in a week...the best thing you can do is buy one and wait (which i did) Sometimes they ship it immediately. (It didnt) Some times you wait a good while. (I did)"

Look on amazon too. They have SG basses for $800 last I looked.

I've always seen the grabbers MUCH cheaper than the rippers. I think it's because the rippers are a smaller # per yr made.

Pretty, always love dark wood.

Oh and the uniform thing, guilty. Still like most of us i've been wearing the same crap since the 90s. I think it has more to do with resistance to change, than genre. Blue collar, but not really red neck, just happen to have the beard and long hair with it.
As far as gear worship goes, every genre is guilty of it, its a shortcut to a certain tone. Our heros use X and sound like Y, so if I want to sound like/similar to Y I should use X. Formula rigs. I've never had the money to do that so I've made do. Even if I had the money I'd feel like a poser. Not saying its wrong just I try and come to my tone honestly. Through experimentation and chemical inspiration.
Either way, Doom on.

Who makes it? Is it a kit? Did you put it together already? How`s it sound?

McNees Music Technology, he has been building kits for people on the classifieds, and recently started his own company/website. He is building a Green Russian Muff clone with a tone bypass switch and clean blend added now, based on the GGG Green Russan kit with the extra mods I wanted. I could have got a custom paint job but skipped on that. So not sure if it is one of his designs or a special job he did for someone.

Yeah,I really wish a vintage Gibson didn`t fetch such a high price.

I`d love to be the proud owner of a RD Artist or Ripper or G-3 or Triumph studio bass or a Grabber. I just never have the money available when one pops up for sale(which kills me inside every time).

Plus I have a soft spot for that 70`s Natural/blonde look. Oh man,to have a vintage Gibby in natural.......I`d have to duct tape my perma-boner of joy down to my......well you get the idea.

Dispersion - what I am talking about is how well you can hear a frequency when you are off axis (more than 45 degrees or so off the center line). When a speaker starts to "beam" the frequencies go from being omidirectional to directional. So as you go higher up you get less and less response when you are off axis. On axis you can hear just fine, but you might not be hearing what your mids/highs are doing if you are 3-4 feet to the left of your cab.

It is counter intuitive, but it has to do with the way a speaker act like a piston at lower frequencies. The smaller the source the better the dispersion.
