I don't GAS for exotics. And anything "vintage" typically screams "old and needs/will need repair soon".
The dually will probably be the most expensive guitar related thing I ever buy....

I liked how ritters looked when I was 17/18 but a decade later I could never bring myself to play one, even if it was reasonably priced.
What's funny is when I was 17/18 I hated the look of a maple neck on a bass, I thought everything needed to match (black on black on black obviously) now I'm the complete opposite.

hes made a few Okons in natural finish that look awesome, but nowadays he seems more into doing these ridiculous laquer finishes with lights and 80 switches and knobs.

Oh, don't get me wrong I've seen stuff he's done that looks wonderful, but a lot of them also just look completely ridiculous (IMO of course).
I used to play more exotic looking instruments that my uncle and I made when I was in highschool out of his garage. They're great looking instruments, but I designed them more when I was 16-18 and didn't really know what I liked as far as an instrument goes. I still have all of them of course, but they are more decoration than getting played anymore. I've meshed more with my basses I play now in the long run, more what I want out of playability and tone.

always enjoy the beebass/laz debates - because they're never really polar opposite views, just two dudes vaguely disagreeing on something, haha.
as for image, it does tend to happen with bands in this genre as well - not just reserved for the scandinavian 60s/70s revival bands. hell, i'm pretty sure my band will be shooting our first vid on super 8 and releasing our first EP on cassette.. and we're just a bunch of shirtless sweaty drunks from new zealand who don't put a huge amount of effort into their appearance.
really gassing to fill up my stable right now. my ideal current rig is to slap a GT200 on top of my 215, then have two basses - 4001 in C standard through my layers of fuzz, then a separate board with a RAT with an old Ripper in standard tuning.
the killer is though, i'll have to wait until after i take a trip to japan this year.. it's killing me

also in relation to image again - does anyone else think that sometimes in the stoner doom crowd we can be a bit pretentious about gear, or worship gear a bit too much perhaps? i am super guilty of it - it's like we're the audiophiles of the musician world, tone this, tone that, boutique pedals, tube or hybrid amps, huge volume, sound dispersion, specific string gauge selection.. big stacks with mixed drivers get us all giddy, while little combo amps make us scoff..

Yes...I have eschewed many hip and boutique things from my rig because they began feel too elitist to me. P-Bass into Bass Big Muff into Hartke into generic 8x10.

Not any more or less than any other genre really. I mean you wouldn't bring a doom rig to a wedding gig. And audiophiles of the music world? Not so much. Listening to my brother talk about the bracing on his $20k classical and the type AND brand of polish and how those things effect tone is a whole other level of "audiophile"

For the first time, the Pbass rental turned out to be very nice, but I'm sticking with my Dehlia...I seem to grab that one more than any of the others these days.
Did First Act really close down their custom shop? How come? They had some super cool custom basses/signature models. I really wanted to order one but for some reason I never could figure out how to go about placing an order with them.Shame they quit their custom shop.

When I was 17-19 I hated the look of Fender head stocks,just couldn`t stand them! By the time I was 20/21 and ready to pick up my 1st bass I went straight to the P bass. Go figure.
heh heh that is a very good point. my neighbour spent 22k on a custom built french horn.
i should say, the "vintage audiophiles of the heavy music world" but that's pretty specific..
i still reckon the K140 is the most delicious speaker i have ever heard.. you just have to use tubes with it so it doesn't explode. cheaper than the 3015 and the faital too.
