Stoner/Doom Bassists 54: Big Cabs and Nerd Bombs

Just make sure you separate the special brownies....
- I only made 1 batch - 1 big 9x13 pan...

Anyone here use a jamman? I don't use loops myself, but this is pretty cool looking

http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/musikmesse-2013-digitech-launches-jamman-express-xt-573847

I have the original Jamman (the double pedal). I don't use it with bands, however it's very useful and this little guy looks very board-friendly. I use the looper for 2 main objectives.
-1. Writing - I initially bought it to get better at improving / soloing / getting out of my same old "Boxes" on the neck. I will set up a very simple chord progression then try to write a better bassline over it. If I'm working on a song I may loop the guitar player's chord progression and go from there....

-2. Writing - I've had some situations where I was working with a guitar player /singer and if he was having trouble putting lyrics in a new song we would loop the guitar part (while I would keep playing bass) so we could concentrate on getting the vocals right.

- also great for making noises and filling space for tuning btwn songs - or transitioning songs that may be in different keys...

Just in case anyone wonders what happened to me, I'm getting rushed to the ER for a fast spreading infection from my gallbladder surgery. Hit some low notes for me brothers, I might need them. :(

Hope you feel better soon man, take care of yourself.

I'm subbed to a whole bunch of builds in the luthiers corner...love to get a Drake custom one day soon

Alright, no more custom bass talk ;)

Corey liked his. Build quality looked real good too.

I'm also in the Luthier's Corner every day. I love seeing what everyone is building, there's a lot of talent over there. Love my Drake Custom, hands down the most beautiful instrument I own, his build quality is definitely top notch. I had it ordered to hopefully arrive just in time for recording the Cold Mourning full length and gigging on that...buuuuuuuuuut, that was over a year ago. I do use it whenever we practice and I was jamming out on it with our guitar player/singer earlier this week, while we were working on a new song. I wish I could give it more exposure, I want to boost Andrew's business, he's a great builder and a nice guy to boot. Hopefully I will have him do another build for me this summer.

Hey wanted to clear the air about the keyboard talk yesterday, I don't think I put it in the right words but someone mentioned it Like the final countdown was the cheesiest I meant. Synths do have some cool sounds and and organ and electrc piano and out effects we love are kind of synths. So who all uses them in their bands I know you aren't using them for final countdown type stuff lol. Think this is the coolest group of people so didn't want to offend anyone with my old man ballbusting ways, you know I love all you Doomer Fvcktards

Haha I think I was the main proponent in that whole "argument" so no worries/hard feelings.

I used to think "synths" were stupid, until I actually learned about what they were, where they came from, and what they are truly capable of. They are one of the most expressive and tweakable instruments out there, I really dig them, that's all haha.

LOL!!!! I was making a joke with a workmate that I posted a vid of Mariana using keys...which was followed by 10 pages of key bashing.

Anyone else use keys except us? I certainly wasn't offended.

Btw, I don't like Rics. hahahhahaha

We are using samples, but that as much as we do besides our strings and drums.

Now that I have a desktop again, I'll be working on a special song. More news to come.

I used to have a Hammond and a Leslie, then a Roland VK-7 (Hammond Emulator), now I just have a midi controller keyboard hooked up to my recording interface. Since I have like 1000 synths in Logic, it gets the job done fine whenever I want organ or anything. I don't use it that much, but I like a good synth here and there. Haven't really ever used any for heavy music, just some organ here and there when I had the Hammond.

We have layered moog parts on recordings before (and probably will again with future recordings), I briefly had a Taurus II which was used for a few shows. But probably will never implement synth live with us again...to much work playing both at the same time. Although it did sound absolutely massive.
