lol, god knows what will be popular in 13 years, i can only dread to think of how awful it will be.
We hashed out a quick live recording in the studio just to have a reference in case we decide to use it later. Guitarist decided to mesh this "doom" jam with another song he wanted to record as a reference. If the vocals weren't terrible, it would actually sound half decent although that's not saying much considering it was a quick and dodgy "on the fly" recording.
Here's the recording. Doom part starts at around the half-way point or a little bit after. Can't check for certain on the work computer:

El Raro, the second half of that sounds pretty sweet. Should be more than just bass during the "heeeeeeyyy" parts, though.
I don't suppose you could convince your guitarist to thicken up his tone? Sounds pretty thin and twangy.

Thanks, mate. Nothing's remotely in concrete for that. It was literally thought up about 15 minutes before recording it. I had the bass riff in mind first and worked around that. I think during the "Hey!" part, we just wanted to go for something that was just heavy and dirty. Obviously not the maddest results but just ideas at this stage.
The guitarist/vocalist has practically no understanding of tone. I've urged him to explore different guitars and amps/cabs to get thicker sounds but he's adamant he wants to play his Squier Jazzmaster through his Fender Deluxe Reverb head with the treble practically cranked to the max. I convinced him to get an EQ pedal not long ago hoping he would use it to dial a thicker tone but he ended up using it to jack the mids up lol. He's really **** like that haha.
That and he can't sing very well at all, as you can probably tell from the recording
This is a total douchebag suggestion, but... drown him out until he decides to go for a better guitar sound.
Completely unrelated, but my cousin and his wife got me a Tech 21 VT Bass pedal for a belated birthday gift. Looking forward to seeing what interesting tones I can get from it. Probably I'm going to use it more with the folk/rock band than with the doom band, but I suppose I could always add it to my pedal board to make my sound even more ganky.

Had a show on saturday with the cover band. Went pretty well after just three practices as a whole band. Venue was pretty good, couple free rounds for the band, tig ol bitty college waitresses... Best part about all of it? The sweet stack of cash at the end of the night.

thanks man, took a while to adjust to those cabs (a lot longer than i expected) but i think i've dialed in a tone that i like and works with the band.

Please post your thoughts. I have been thinking about getting one of those. Some of the tones those things are capable of are pretty impressive, going by YouTube. I like the idea of putting other dirt pedals before it.
Aint that the truth...
I'm actually so happy/excited to be ending my job on Friday. Hoping to be able to take some time off between this and the next contract and work on some personal things, get my head straight... all work and no play for 5 years after college with no vacation or variation from the office lifestyle is wearing on me.
This coffee is damn good though
If you're going to be forced to take a break from working, this is the best possible time. Get out and enjoy that weather.
Had a busy weekend - got around 150 seedlings started for our various vegetable gardens, they're currently hanging out in a small greenhouse in a corner in our kitchen.
The doom band's 1st album/demo is wrapping up, working on mastering now. It's sounding alright, but not ideal so we're going to call it a demo. Looking forward to getting that in the can so we can move on and start working on more new material.
We might try to dub a couple of dozen cassettes before our show this saturday. It's a DIY show, I figure the young crusties would dig cheap tapes.
I guess being doom, for the sake of realism they realize money means nothing in the apocalypse.
