So this may go against the trend in this thread but I'm considering ditching the fuzz and distortion pedals altogether. My preamp gets a decent low-gain grind and I'm tired of trying to make everything work well together. I can't settle on a tone that I like and I'm starting to wonder if it would be better just to ditch it all and plug straight in (through a tuner pedal). Anyone here just plug straight in?

I do, on the rare occasion I use an amp. I would recommend going straight into the amp. Then add one pedal to the chain, then a different one, and so on.

You may find that the most simple chain is the best. Or you may find one pedal is what you're loking for.

That makes sense, I want to keep things simple and I'm too broke to go down the boutique fuzz/dist rabbit hole. That's a slippery slope for me. :hmm:

I played one of these jags when I was looking for a lighter bass. If it would have been light enough, I would have bought it. This jag sounded so good. I played it through the old Big Bass Muff I had through a 1-15 ampeg combo and it killed (at GC volume, atleast). To date, the only PJ I have played that I liked both pickups on (out of about 5 different ones).

almost finished one of these last night, took forever with mounting the speakers due to the speaker holes, but it worked out. im gonna sharpie the wood blocks, wade didnt take into consideration grill size and had i left it the way he sent it to me the grills would have been sitting on the speakers themselves lol. hopefully done by saturday for this one.

Yeah dude I was pleasantly surprised how good it sounded once i picked it up. I run the j-bass pickup at around 7 or 8 on the volume and its just sick, and it LOVES dirt pedals. I did a bass fuzz demo with and posted it to you youtube and listening back sometimes I love it way more then my P. Right now I use it was my standard E tuning bass while my P is in B. I found it to be pretty light, lighter then my P, but i have definitely played lighter basses.

The finish on that cab came out awesome man!

i hate everyone in here lol.

skip, they were built by wade at monolith. however, he flaked and sent them to me unfinished, i had phil mountjoy tolex and clean them up, as well as create the grill cloths. scott mounted the speakers and wired that one up last night, just took awhile to figure out the mounting process based on the hole sizes.
