i'd horde if i could afford it, but i have a specific pool of money that i use for gear, if the pool is empty then stuff has to go.

I just got the new Bass Player Mag in the mail and man has that magazine gone down hill. It's always the same junk with a decent article maybe once a year. I'm sick of every article being about virtuosos or studio dudes! Even the effects section is sucking lately. BTW I wouldn't mind a Squier CB or VM P bass lol! I've played a newer Squier and think they are better than a lot of Fenders from the past 10 years or so. A Lakland would be sweet too

i stopped reading BP 4 or 5 years ago. The Guitar World bass magazine that was around for a while was good but did not last. The only magazine i subscrtibe to is Tom Bowlus's Bass Gear.

in other news, got my first ever royalty payment from SOCAN. thinking about retiring soon

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'll simply never be a Fender fan.

Doesn't have to be a Fender to be a P or J.

That P/J, the white P above it, and the Jazz top right are parts basses I built. And the Grabber is not that heavy.

I'm rocking a homebrew P/J right now. I didn't build it, another TB'er did. USACG neck & body, Hipshot hardware, Nordy P&J. Pretty sweet, and I'm GAS-free for a while.

There are a few P basses that straight smoke Fender. Hopefully, my Carvin will too.

Indeed. While I'm not a huge fan of a single P pickup it definitely has its uses. My point though is about the guitars themselves. The body shape, size, body-to-neck ratio... just isn't for me. That goes for all the basses made to be "better Fenders" as well.

I'm far from snobby with what other people use. If it works for you, then super. It just doesn't for me is all.

My Spector is a P/J and I'm a fan of that pickup configuration (about to replace the passive EMGs with active ones), and my Warwick has J/J pickups. I definitely prefer that.


So yeah. Pickups have little to do with my distaste for Fenders (and their clones). I just don't like how they play.

I have pups from a 80's jazz special in that bass and I'm thinking Dimarzio for my destroyer. Always wanted to try those Duncan's with the mini switches.

in the last two weeks one bass, two preamps, and a power amp have gone, two pedals, and a jazz has shown up...par for course.

That elminates a lot of basses for you. It's kinda weird too because aren't you a diehard Wick guy? Almost everyone I have met that loves Warwick, hates Fender and all things that look like them. I knew a guy the same way. Until he found a 1977 P bass with the A neck shape (basically a jazz neck on a P body). He doesn't use his Warwick now after being a diehard for 16years with nothing but the Wick.

I wouldn't say "hardcore", but I definitely love my Warwick. And my Spector. I prefer the smaller, more contoured bodies of the more "modern" companies I think. The Jazz necks are nice - I have short fingers and prefer tighter string spacing - but coupled with the giant body the whole J-bass package isn't really for me.

I played a Sadowsky once and while it was obviously a fantastic bass (and far higher quality than anything I own), I'm more comfortable playing my old crappy Samick that I've had for 16 years.

That's a great deal and I would totally love to own a real vintage Fender. Not so much because I'd like to play it, but because it's a huge part of musical history.

So until today I had only listened to The Sword's Gods of the Earth. Listened to Age of Winters today and holy Sleep worship! There is some cool stuff on that album.
