It really does. I'm not a fan of super clean tones. I think any amp thats 200w or more should have a half power switch. To push 400w of tubes into power tube saturation is just stupid loud (which isn't a bad thing) 200w is a lot easier.

that's why i created the Sampeg. I needed something that would get me that nice overdriven power tube sound as reasonable volume.
Exactly. I love when people can't believe the volume we get and I tell them to look our amps. My Orange is at 3 on the Master Vol. You really don't need a ton of watts to get a lot of volume you just need some speakers to move some air.

Another blog that I didn't see come up on that discussion a page or two ago is Doommantia.com. It's a bit more metal focused than some of the other blogs mentioned.
Also, going to play with a guitarist and drummer who answered my doom/drone ad. It's an hour drive, but I think I might be willing to take that if it's all I can get (only getting together every two weeks or so). We'll see how that goes.

haha. yeah. The bassist in my band is getting a second Berg NV610 and running it with his fender 1200 pro. I'm going to try to stand away from it, lest I poop myself.
That should sound pretty awesome. I had a couple of NV cabs I used to run my upright with. Ampeg SVT-8Pro into NV610 + NV215. I used the NV425 for small stuff or when I was lazy.
Speaking of big cabs. I've been looking at getting an 810 for my punk band, but I'm just dreading moving it. We've got a full flight of stairs either up or down since our practice space is in a basement. I realize that the Ampegs have the stair rails, but are they really useful when it comes to constant use / big staircases? should I get two 8ohm 410s instead?
My head is I think 180 watts and plenty. I honestly don't know what my heads and cabs are rated at. I just know what cab is what ohms. I don't think the majority gear out there is rated right half the time anyways. I've never had issues with blowing up speakers and I play pretty loud
I deal with the same thing. We're in a basement and have to deal with stairs. It's not bad if you have someone to help you. It's actually not bad at all with two people. I say this but me and the other bass player are both pretty big guys (well tall not big. about 6'4") I carry the 215's by myself and they're the size of a 412. Plus you can always wheel around the 810. It's just the stair thing you'll need help with. Once you get used to it it's not bad at all.
