Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread Part 11 - "Bath Time"

I deal with the same thing. We're in a basement and have to deal with stairs. It's not bad if you have someone to help you. It's actually not bad at all with two people. I say this but me and the other bass player are both pretty big guys (well tall not big. about 6'4") I carry the 215's by myself and they're the size of a 412. Plus you can always wheel around the 810. It's just the stair thing you'll need help with. Once you get used to it it's not bad at all.

so do you just have someone on top pulling and someone on the bottom pushing? I'm a big guy, basically the same size as Laz, and it's not really the weight as much as the huge pain in the ass.

My head is I think 180 watts and plenty. I honestly don't know what my heads and cabs are rated at. I just know what cab is what ohms. I don't think the majority gear out there is rated right half the time anyways. I've never had issues with blowing up speakers and I play pretty loud

Yep you really don't need thousands of watts at all. If you start blowing speakers add more speakers.

Turn it sideways. Tilt. Someone grab the top and someone grab the bottom. No pushing or pulling. Just carry it. You can do the same thing by just tilting it back and grabbing the bar and the wheels but I find it easier to maneuver doorways/stairwells with it sideways.

Cool. it's only 160lbs or whatever, but still. My TVX 412 was so awkward to carry, because of how wide it was, and the casters SUCKED. Up and down the stairs, so many times. I just laid it on it's side and slid it down the stairs at 3am so many times.

The combo can wait, I NEED THAT OTHER Sunn Beta 205...

Emailed the guy to see if he's interested in a trade for the B2R or if he'll hold it until it sells.

I dont know what my Peavey puts out at 8ohms, it does 130watts at 4ohms, but I really dont think it matters when I will have 4x15's pushing air at your face. The question is...should I vertical stack them or horizontal?

You can basically get the latter only at one volume, however. I don't want my ears to be bleeding before I can get an overdriven sound I like.

I thought I said this already in my initial question?

At that point, you can do the opposite, just use the pregain to set gain level, and master volume to set the loudness. I've practiced with nasty overdrive while my room mate was asleep.

what kind of settings are you rat tail users using?

I have mine set as- Vol~unity
Freq~10 o`clock
Drive~1 to 2 o`clock
Knob 1)~ 7 to 8 o`clock
Knob 2)~8 o`clock
no diodes(toggle in middle)
Even at this somewhat mild setting my bass is still really distorted,in a good way, with lots of low end. Sounds like the bass in Young Widows`"Old Skin". I`m (mainly)playing a Fender P Deluxe(MIM) with active PJ pickups,a Fender Jaguar(first run,MIJ) with the preamp off, if that info helps you.

This has got to be some kind of craigslist record for a band response (personal record atleast). I met another bass player who dabbles in guitar. He said he doesn't have a doom rig yet, but while his band's on hiatus (pop punk) there is a basement full of goodies. Yay! Hopefully I am meeting this dude next week. His punk band drummer might come too. We'll see.

Can, on some heads. Lots of older ones won't do it, though. This is for guitar, mind. My bass head needs are pretty well met these days, and my D-180 isn't quite enough overdrive for me on guitar, but on bass it has all the overdrive I need.
