I have flats on my P. If you get a good sounding one, I just love how fat and thick the tone can get.

didnt really care for the flats on my thunderbird, i use nickle round wound now.
looking forward to running flats on whatever bass i decide on next week, most likely that hondo double P, i think it will be a good match. about to try the steve harris roto sound flats instead of chromes.

New P bass arrived, no time to do more than look as I got finals, but I love the neck.
Will be selling the mirror pickguard, pickup (Duncan designed 1/4 pound copy) and it's harness if anyone here was interested first in those parts. Gotta venture into tb and find a custom guard maker, if this guy in Austin isn't interested in the job. That said I need to confirm I can do the alterations before I ditch the parts so I don't wind up with a gutted bass lol.
Edit: still not plugged in but neck is like 200% what I expected it to be. I just wanted the block n bind on maple, but I didn't realize it's a glossy finish so the fretboard has the ric like fretboard smooth finish. Yippy skippy y'all

Congrats Bryce!!! Sold my Yammy power amp on ebay yesterday and had to pack it up last night, I had shipping heavy things, especially heavy things with sharp skinny rack mount ears, I loaded extra cardboard around everything, and think I used half a roll of tape or more lol. The best part is it is going to Chinese Buffet in Las Vegas, lol.
The bummer, I have no big amps to run in to the Bassic, having to play my Fender Champion 600 cranked in to it, lol, and if I try to play pedals then it is pushed too hard lol, come one more gear sales so I can gets me a new head lol.
Congrats Man! What sort of custom pickguard options are You looking for (You may have already said it, but I forgot)? May take a look at pickguardian or somebody like that. There is also a fella on ebay that cuts custom guards, but his name isn't coming to mind at the moment, so I'd have to think on it for a bit.
I have a 70's P bass, unknown brand, made in Japan. It has flats sounds great especially with the Demon King. Fat indeed. It's my E standard bass.
I even bought a worn cream 70s Dimarzio PAF for it. Haven't put it in yet. I'll save it for when I want new tone out of it. Or when the poles sticking out of the stock one rip up my finger tips.

Those are nice heads, despite the (rumored?) reliability issues.
The Mesa 400 is at the top of my GAS list. If I ever get an all-tube head it'll likely be one of those.

Haha, that's awesome. Reminds Me of that "mobile home" plant I had to go into on a past job. They actually had a pretty loud PA/intercom system, that a guy called "The Motivator" would use to call out folks on the production floor, who weren't keeping up the pace. Dude could say some pretty funny stuff, but I cant say it'd be a job I'd wanna have though.
On another note, before packing up that acoustic guitar last night, I figured I'd give it a run through and make sure everything was good to go with the electric portion as I hadn't used it for sometime. Sounded pretty nice through the clean side of the meatsmoke into the 15/6. Probably the best I've ever heard the guitar sound in the few times I've ever plugged it in. Haha, still didn't make Me wanna keep it or anything, but I can definitely see guys that do a lot of acoustic electric playing loving a fearful cab.
I had a 400+, it was a great clean sounding amp, but I could never get it to sound good with distortion. Whether it was pre-amp, power amp or pedal distortion, it always sounded harsh and brittle.
Thanks, that's good to know. I saw a band a few weeks ago where the bass player was using one and I thought it had a good distorted tone. Not sure if dude was using pedals or just the amp.
I appreciate the tip, though. This is all a pipe dream anyway, even if I did have the cash for one I'd have a hard time spending that much money. If for some strange reason I'm about to pull the trigger on one I'll definitely give it a test run before I bring it home.

Yeah , flats in a Pbass sounds awesome. I've probably been putting it off because in Nashville, it's nearly a law that you HAVE to do it

This may have changed, but I tried the Harris Rotos few years back. Handed them to my tech and asked for a good setup. He called and said he could not get those strings to intonate. I've heard the same from others since. I want to try some other types of flats, but I still like the heavy gauge LaBella Deep Talkin' Bass strings
