Might as well engage some conversation: what are your favorite pedals that shine great on both bass AND guitar?

For me, just one. The Sovtek TFR Big Muff.

I definitely want to try it out and see what that thing can do... did you replace the El Oso with it? I saw the first gig you played it at and it definitely sounded bad-A, seemed like maybe it clarified your tone (or whatever frequency of your tone sticks out) as I had no problems following your basslines. Whats your effect chain lookin like these days?

Yeah it's my go-to always on pedal now. I'm kind of using it as a preamp since it basically is a preamp. It's at the end of my signal chain before going to the amp. I still need to mess around with how it gets along with the BB and El Oso. I honestly haven't had a chance to play through the big rig much lately. Holidays, traveling, etc.

I reeeeeeally wanna try a Cthulu... I love simple pedals. Its pretty high gain though, right? I lose all my definition in my bass rig if I jack the sustain knobs, usually leave Tone/Sustain minimized and turn up volume appropriately. If its too fuzzy and loses definition then I'll just get lost in the mix.

It is, but it works pretty well for bass. I used it at Warp Rig practice last week, it didn't get bogged down or flabby sounding and that was my Precision tuned to B. I've had a problem with high gain fuzzes on bass in the past, losing definition and getting farty sounding. Right now every fuzz I use regularly (Pickle Pie B, Wizard and Cthulhu) does ok with my setup. The Cthulhu is actually the only Fuzz Face(ish) based pedal I've had luck using with bass, everything else I've tried has been fart city for me.

It's about 10.5lbs. Featherweight compared to my T-40! I paid $300. Not a steal, but a solid deal, I thought

The Michael Pope is my upright pre, so I just tried it through my Reiner Pre and a power amp and with the Mesa

How would you describe the tone vs. your T-40?

I'm thinking of maybe picking up an SVT-CL again. I dig my Orange but its got a very baked in tone and I think I'd like the fat thick base tone of the SVT to be able to do more live pedal experimentation.

How would you describe the tone vs. your T-40?

I've only just started messing with it, so I could be full of it, but...

The T-40 to me can be an odd cross between a Ric and a Gibson Ripper. But if you really want to tweak, there's so many sounds you can get out of it. Very cool basses for sure.

The T-45 sounds more like an early Stingray to me. Really punchy with tons of attack. I still need to good around with it. 3 knobs on a single pickup bass with no switches? I don't fully understand it, but wide open it sure sounds good to me

Man, I can't begin to tell you how much I love that 6SL7 Reiner pre. Expensive, and takes forever just to talk Jonathan into building you one, but I really love it to death

That's a solid deal, I've seen T-40's go for more in worse condition. You're right, that's pretty light considering the pedigree.

Hadn't played my '77 Ibanez Pbass for a couple of months since I picked up that jazz. Decided to plug it in yesterday and forgot how amazing it is. I think I noodled around for like 5 straight hours. Nothing beats a good Sunday snow day and getting to just play bass all day.

I just took a couple basses and amps to the shop today so I could noodle a bit during breaks. Took the Drake and the T45. Still think the world of that Drake, but I don't think flats were the right call on my part. Sounds awesome with flats but I think there's a better sound in that bass to be had. Been wanting to keep flats always on one of my basses but can't decide which one. Maybe the Pbass...?
