Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Oh sorry I meant to say non muff fuzz. I still have my blue beard. I want something thinner, raspier. Velcro like you say. Witch guitar tone, black keys etc. maybe a fuzz face or something else.

Getting oc-2/oc-3 gas too. I used to have an oc-3, set it for 75% clean blend with the oc-3 dirt selected, duo sonic tuned to drop c, neck pickup into my classic 30 set for dirty... Hot damn that was such a great tone. Thick and mean.

I figure a fuzz and oc-2 would get me the same thing but better than the onboard oc-3 dirt, if it blended the same way.

Oh Ok, Black Keys guitar tone just automatically makes me think Green Russian. Well that Behringer Ultra Fuzz will do the Super Fuzz tones and that thing is uber cheap. If you can find a Fuzz Face clone get one with a bias knob to get the velcro sounds. Maybe you can land a used Fuzz Factory or clone of one. Or check out Devi Ever stuff, wild and you can find them used pretty cheap of GC, ILF, etc.

Really? I'll look into it. I think im confused on the black keys part, Im not used to a muff sounding like that, as I'm always using mine for down tuned doom.

Bias knob I'll keep in mind. Found $70 OC-2 20 minutes away. Man that's tempting if some other gear sells off soon.

I am thinking of selling my Madbean Lowrider (Pearl Octaver clone). Analog up and down octave. Kind of hooked on the Pitch Fork I got and don't need two octave pedals.
Yeah Green Russian's are a big part of his sound, but a Bluebeard is way heavy gain over a stock Green.

Askrere, sounds like you're wanting a Fuzzface or Superfuzz based fuzz. Quite different from a muff, don't always work great for bass, especially the Fuzzface.

This is for guitar or maybe my bass vi. Though if it worked on bass I wouldn't be saddened.

I can't even play guitar right now though... All the screws I needed didn't get bought... The only decent guitar shop in town is run by the flakiest dude in town. He has set hours that vary depending on where you read, and he's never actually there, or is and won't open the door/put an away sign up. Today I drove by and he was getting a massage in the middle of the sales floor! So I went to get groceries and dropped by on the way back and he was closed two hours early and was in there just chilling...

Oh and tuned my drums. Still need to do a bit of work. Man it's hard to get from heads all buzzy with flop to that sweet spot of deep deep resonating tone.

Altec power amp with controls mounted to chassis:

The nameplate is a little crooked, just a minor adjustment needed to fix that. Otherwise it came out pretty decent. I think I might paint the rest of the chassis front green to match the old faceplate. We'll see. Now to wait for the thaw so I can use the garage to build a headshell. One of my wife's friends has piles of reclaimed barn lumber so I might use some of that to make something classy looking.

You have to wait for the thaw to to get into your garage?? Is it frozen shut?

It's kinda unseasonable, but it hit the 80's already the other week before a cold front hit. Now it's 70's by day mid 50's by night.

Damn that sounds good. It was 70 on Saturday but back to 34 again which is nothing compared to the Midwesterners but Micah sure didn't like waiting for the bus today LOL. Coldest year I saw living in Virginia, still better than PA though. Most winters I lived here are close to what you got going on at night temp wise Bryce. I should of stayed living in Florida LOL.

I can get in there, but as Mr. CL400 says, it's goddamn cold out there.

To give some perspective, it was 32 when I left for work this morning and it felt WARM. Like, no jacket, no stocking cap, roll the car windows down a bit to get some fresh air, warm.

Yesterday it was 1-2 degrees when I left for work.

Yep. I went out in a hoodie yesterday afternoon, as it was between 20-30 degrees. Sounds like we are going to get spanked with some more cold air in the next week. Time to find a scarf.

Florida, where its normal for your balls to sweat in winter.
