Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Musicman Sabre on truck for delivery! (damn my lack of will power!) Now I need to buy a new pair of pants since I burned that whole in the pocket of this pair.

Jelly. I would love a black and maple sabre. Have any of you had one of these and run it passive? I know that MM pups generally have and were originally built around a preamp, but Ialso know several pup makers build passive MM pups. Any loss with this pipe dream of mine?

Just ordered a Tyrant Fuzz for guitar and hopefully it plays nice with bass too. I love the graphics.

Just get an L series :)

Sucks about the band sitch man.

I have an audition this weekend, hoping it turns into something reasonably stable. We shall see. It's a bit more in the QOTSA vein, so I'll get to crank my shizz and fire up the Bluebeard :)

Had their Twin Earth Fuzz. The tone was pretty cool, but it had literally no low end. Loved to play around with it at home, but completely useless in a band setting.

Wonder if that's a reference to Monster Magnet's tone on the song Twin Earth from Superjudge. That album was all buzzy fuzzface and superfuzz, so it makes sense that there'd be now low end. Maybe I'm thinking about it too much.

Kind of a shot in the dark purchase. I dig the videos of it, think it was originally called the Fuzz Lord pedal. I read it is based sort of on a DAM Meathead but more gain and other tweaks. And if it is only good on guitar I am fine with that. I keep trying to find that heavy doom/sludge tone and really not sure if that is fuzz or distortion, plus I am trying to get that from a clean-ish amp at bedroom/home playing levels LOL. One guy said he was pulling off Dopethroneish tones with a telecaster so I think it is worth a shot.

Patrick we need to hang and measure up... gear I mean! I need to hear the glory of the Bluebeard first hand... and probably spend the next bit searching high and low for one as I suspect the GAS will be unnerving. Good luck at the audition! I would love to do something QOTSA-esque.

New job starts on Monday. Until then, bigg riffs are happening...

'61 Casino replica > Morley PFW (new Cliff tribute version) > VT > Dwarvenaut > oversized 212.

(apologies for non-bass post...)

I just blew wads. How is the Hovercraft? I have been somewhat gassing for an Elder Giant. I don't know why (and I know another amp is not what I need) but I have insatiable GAS for a custom head. I want to get on the ball with that before all of these makers start to really jack up their prices with what I see as an inevitable boom in demand.

How does that casino handle dirt? My old guitarist had one and its shrieked like a banshee.

Also is the 2x12 new or did it ship with the hovercraft? Never saw it before.

Too bad I sold my spare :)

I was seriously looking at Utopia the other day, to get the STL brethren together for a few hours. Its like $15/hr for an empty room.

Nabbed the 212 in late '14. It was built from an old 215. Sounds fantastic.

The Casino does just fine with dirt with both pups on. It can shriek a bit but it's been the pleasant kind not just the immediate piercing wail.
