Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Wow, this thread has 90,000+ posts in it, ouch! Normally I'd read through before posting but that just ain't a gonna happen here :( .

Anyways I might join an originals Stoner/Doom Metal band that just lost their bassist/vocalist and second guitarist :( but found a singer :) so maybe viable. Their stuff sounds like Sabbath so not too tough to play. They have a set down and have gigged. All guys 40+ so no delusions about "making it" or touring.

Gotta say I'm not too keen on humping my SVT rig but not sure a pair of 4 ohm GK 212MBE's will hack it - I'd have to slap together a rack rig to power it if not the SVT head. I still have an old Carvin DCM1000 that can put 350w into each of these 600w rated cabs, I figure I can crank that without worrying about anything blowing up :) . I have an old "Tube Works" "Blue Tube" rackmount preamp I could use, or a Behringer V-Amp Pro, or just run a Behringer BDI-21 pedal.

I think a "P" bass would be fine, what do yous guys think about flats vs the more commonly used rounds? I have a "P" with active EMGs and flats as my primary bass presently but have others I could set up for this project. I don't much care for 5 strings - but I presently tune DGCF and could go lower if needed, or an octave pedal or ?

This place is the ultimate stream-of-collective-consciousness. I highly doubt anyone here has actually read the whole thing. We all space out from time to time.

How do you like those mbe's? I had a pair and idk if they had issues or what but one for sure had the horns crossover dangling inside causing all kinds of rattles. I fixed that and sold them off, but most people have better luck with cabs than I.

I like flats and they last forever so it's a win. Even used them on guitar for a while. I do keep two basses in standard and keep rounds on them. But im working on two basses for low tuning and they gonna be flats.

I'd tune to what they play in and do so with my strings not an octaver unless you are going for a glitchy synth tone.

So meeting up with the sexican next week when she gets back from vacation.

As a single dude I'm curious how you guys meet/met girls. Most girls I meet through friends I don't find attractive or are taken. Therefore most girls I ask out are just perfect strangers I found cute and we somehow interacted or didn't and shot in the dark just ask (because you miss 100% of the chances you don't take). I just I think pickup lines are gross, but how do you start an out of the blue conversation without coming off as a creep or incredibly canned lol.

Anddd something/someone's on my porch slowly moving my gate back and forth and hit my table... sleeping with a pistol tonight. Skull mans back?

I would see if you can find an emg gzr and lose the active. I have one in a Peavey fury and it is awesome. And welcome!

I bought the first to use with my MB200 head and it's the 4 ohm version to use the full power. The second I got cheap when they were discontinued to try to use the pair as subs for the PA - they actually work pretty good for that driven by a Behringer NU3000 (about 600 real watts per cab). At 34 lbs each (crazy light for a 2x12!) I can carry one in each hand :) . So far they've held up. I've used a single one outside a couple times on my Aguliar TH-350, plenty loud for classic rock.

I have a SGR Prowler I might try, single passive humbucker. I normally play short scales but that one's a medium. Obviously the GZR would give me that Sabbath sound but I do like the sound of a 'ray style bass too. I think this band's last bassist had a Rick.

Well, I was thinking more of a modern DSP based pitch shifter that doesn't need to "track". I have an inexpensive Behringer US600 (Boss PS5 clone) that's not too bad if I do feel the need to get down to the "F#" below the "B" - but I guess that's more for "drone metal?". I suspect my DGCF is fine but I can always tune lower, dunno yet what they tune.

Oh BTW I play in DGCF even with the guitars in "E" standard, really messes with the guitarists if they try to follow my fingers :D .

I met my wife when I was waiting tables on the graveyard shift at Denny's. I thought she was cute, asked a coworker to switch sections with me and chatted her up. She ended up coming in regularly after a closing shift where she worked, for coffee and pie.

When we first started, we tuned in D. I think that's a good place for more of your classic style stuff, like Sabbath. I don't think their is anything I wouldn't get along with in your rig, except the active electronics. I just never had much luck with them jiving with pedals, and then clipping amps. I would use your ears on the amp versus amp challenege. Sounds like you have a decent stable. I'd take the Aguilar and see if there is a way to run it to the Carvin to add juice. Use it as the pre, if you still have it. The Aguilar amps can get gnarly. That's the tone is want for sabbath. That old grinding, almost at maximum breakup, dig in until it hurts, tone. What else you got? I mean the Ampeg would work great cranked. But, heavy, cranking tubes doesn't exactly extend the life, heavy. There's a couple reasons not to bring the ampeg, but toobz! So, you have a couple of ways you could go. Welcome!

Also at work.
I worked at the pizza shop and she worked at subway. She would come talk to me when I would have a smoke break. I asked her out like two weeks after we met.
