Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Got dat Al chicken peck head nod down pat.

I am starting a new 2 piece with a friend of mine. Just bass and drums with an aim to sound like a blend of Lightning Bolt, Sabbath and The Dillinger Escape Plan. Noisy, doomy and mathy with a lot of Sabbathy riffs. I have been thinking a bass VI may be pretty cool for such a project.
Or an 8-string bass. Just saying.

So just BSing and looking at mega expensive instruments on gbase. I'm not impressed. Just a bunch of old Jazz and P basses. There were couple of basses that gave me a oooooh! moment, but that's it.

I found a dream custom bass, sukop retro firebird. Thing looks sweet. Actually went to their site to see what's what.

Also, inca silver 4003 ric with black binding and pick guard.

Lastly, dingwall ABZ that was hot looking.

All the copies felt blah to look at after awhile. Makes me appreciate the lines on my Carvin. It's retro looking, but modern style.

Carry on, I got no GAS money.
I didn't know I wanted this until you said it. Dammit.

Speaking of Elder, I think I listened to the new album on Bandcamp too many times and they cut me off. Now every time I start playing, it asks me if I want to buy it and then doesn't start haha...busted. Someone buy a pedal off me.

Lame. Just let them know that you're Corey and it's cool.

...seriously though - you could have just pirated the album, but you didn't. I didn't realize that there was a limit to the amount of times you can stream something.

Edit: It's $2.05 cheaper on Amazon for the download.

Maybe I'm just a dumdum and I can't figure out how to do it right. I'm kind of overing pirating media at this point. I've done enough DIY music ventures and I'm narrow enough in the focus of what I like, I want to support what I actually listen to (that's new/current). I will download digital copies of albums I already own or old stuff that's hard to find, but I generally try to buy new albums from Bandcamp or something similar if I can. I will buy the new Elder album eventually, when I have the funds. I feel bad that Max sent me his band's CD for free, with how much I listen to it. If they ever make cool shirts in fatboy sizes, I'll have to buy one (or a couple) off him.

Well, it got a lot harder after the Megaupload/blog crackdown. Never figured out the torrent thing, tried it 3 times and got system-destroying malware every time. I never really stopped buying music, but it was nice to grab some free stuff now and then to check out a new band.

The only stuff I download is mostly older punk, noise rock and doom/stoner stuff. Still never had any problem finding it and downloading safely, but you just have to kind of know how to look for it. I never got into the torrent thing. My wife does that for audiobooks and stuff, I really do prefer to just buy things I like if I can. Especially since most of the things I enjoy are out of the mainstream, so I want to support the creators and help ensure they keep making things.

Last night my wife went to a cloth diaper and baby clothes exchange/get together (bring ones you don't want/need/don't fit, get free stuff in return), that she heard about through her network of mommies. It turned out to be the Pro-Life and Jesus equivalent of a time share pitch/trap and she was super not happy when she got home. So sometimes saving money has its pitfalls.

I bet her network just got a little smaller.
