Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Man, Elder was awesome last night. All that and then some. Real nice guys too. Packed venue but I managed to position myself right up front. Bass tone was huge. Jazz bass with a Zvex Basstortion through a vintage Sunn tube amp.

If anyone is looking to score some Elder vinyl on this tour they had DRS, Live at Roadburn, Lore, and the Spires EP all for sale. $20 for LPs and $10 for the EP. Way better than buying them online as imports.

So just BSing and looking at mega expensive instruments on gbase. I'm not impressed. Just a bunch of old Jazz and P basses. There were couple of basses that gave me a oooooh! moment, but that's it.

I found a dream custom bass, sukop retro firebird. Thing looks sweet. Actually went to their site to see what's what.

Also, inca silver 4003 ric with black binding and pick guard.

Lastly, dingwall ABZ that was hot looking.

All the copies felt blah to look at after awhile. Makes me appreciate the lines on my Carvin. It's retro looking, but modern style.

Carry on, I got no GAS money.

Generally it involves a lot of complex rhythms and frequent meter and/or tempo changes.

You know, **** that makes you count and do math.

My buddy is a relatively eccentric personality, but a bonafide genius all the same. Songs are going to be incredibly weird and short. Some of the tunes he has sent to me are only like 30 seconds long. There was also talk of our stage set up being his el cheapo electronic drum set and 2 practice combos.

Some of these things may change as I am a little more leveled in my approach, but the overall goal is to be weird as ****.

Sounds like a nice compliment to your other band that's way too loud and the guitarist wants you felt, not heard. :)

Its gonna need a new bridge and maybe strings before id call it really any usable live. Also has a very long learning curve, cant playit exactly like a bass or a guitar its a weird bastard thing.

Pups are as high as they go and ive thought about dropping in a super distortion in it but that would involve routing as well, I kinda like the built in boost circuit idea a bit more.
