Used T-40 plus small amp for sale in my neck o' the woods. Man, some decent stuff going up lately.

The studio we normally use is pretty cheap at $25/hr. Our mixing engineer charged us $750 flat to record everything on Filaments except drums, and also mix, and the mastering costed like $75 for the whole album. I'd say that's pretty damn cheap, especially for the results.
On the flip side, when we recorded our 2 track EP demo at a "real" studio that has done Grammy winning work, it was like $500 for two tracks recording only and then an extra $150+ something for like 3 hours of mixing and mastering... and the results weren't good. Got kind of screwed with that one but you live and learn.

So vox today took a bit longer than expected, because we had to take care of our van which was sitting on the side of the highway because we left it there on Saturday because we popped a tire and the rim was siezed on the hub and we wanted to get recording and not spend 4 hours on the shoulder of a highway fighting a tire. Seriously the cosmos does not want us to record/release an album, but fvck the cosmos. We have one more day in the studio booked for early June, to finish vox and mixing. Well be releasing a track or two of the unmastered stuff that has vocals before then, hopefully within a week or two. So you'll be able to hear some stuff soon.
All said and done we recorded 80 mins of riffs in 20 hours this weekend. An epic feat to say the least.

Just to throw it out there after recording in a studio versus recording at home I honestly don't see the value in recording anything but drums and vox at a studio unless you want to record everything live. This is assuming you don't have someone else paying for the recording but few of us are going to recoup the expense of a nice studio recording especially for a demo or first recording that you are self-publishing.
If you are recording to a click you can literally buy 2 really nice mics (or two decent ones you could get an SM57 for guitar and an AKG D112 for bass for like $180 used) and record strings at home at your leisure almost for nothing. If you're dead set on having a pro mic your stuff I still would just record everything DI and have it reamped somewhere really fancy for like $30-50 a track. If anyone likes the band The Ocean I read an interview with Robin Stapps and thats what they do now. I think the real value in recording is getting someone you really like master/mix it and spend your money there. That and you get to keep the mics/preamps not going to the studio saved you and you can continue to accumulate good stuff every time you record.

Morning gents. Busy weekend, band drama, followed up by blowing stuff up with guns to ease that stress.

So right now we rent a practice space. It is pretty decent, size, location, clean, safe, bathrooms on site, 24 hour access. The room costs $200 a month, we each pay $50 that comes directly out of gig money. It is a pretty chill place, and there is usually someone there from the band either jamming with a friend or two or solo. This isnt an issue as most of the people there are known quantities/friends of everyone in the band.
So the drama stems from my singer/guitard telling me he has put together a side project, and they are going to be running out of the practice room. After asking him who is in the band, the only one of them I know is a cat I would never trust with anything that holds value to me. He is a straight up dBag, the rest of the guys I dont know.
So as I am getting uneasy, I just say to him, "Hey, cool side project, but I am not comfortable with a second band of guys we dont know running out of the space. I am not cool leaving my gear here under those circumstances." He responds with a "That's your issue, but this is still happening."
We then proceed to get in to me saying that if they are going to practice there that band is responsible for $100 rent a month. He counters with they are not a money making band and not going to leave much gear there. They want to use our PA and amps, I tell him that isnt cool. Seeing as I wont be leaving any gear there, I want my $50 back I just paid for the month. yadda yadda yadda...

You are totally in the right, and not d-bagging at all. If anything, your guitar player is totally d-bagging, and you need to tell this guy to GTFO of your band, or walk yourself. If you let this happen, bad will ensue. This will be just the first step in your band's disintegration, in my opinion. He is showing utter contempt for you by saying it's going to happen whether it's cool with you or not. guitarists are a dime a dozen, tell him to walk.
I got all my stuff out of there, and told him I would not be leaving anything in the space anymore. That really pissed him off because even though he told me, "no one will touch your stuff..." He had also previously told me that the bass player in the other band doesnt actually have a gigable rig. So I can already see how that will play out. At this point I am just going to show up with a DI pedal, its not even worth hauling my gear there for practice at this point.
You are doing it right. Time to start looking for another gig, or have a full band meeting, and let the other guys know what's going on, and what your take on this is. I would not be surprised if you told us that he's already spoken with the other guys and said what a d-bag you are for doing this.
Ah,that sucks dude. I wouldnt want anybody mucking around with my gear while I`m not there. I think you made the right choice!
off topic,I was thinking of picking up some h.p.lovecraft books or collected works. Anybody have a good place to start. I`m know the cthulhu mythos somewhat but would like to read more.

If someone practices regularly in a space, they pay rent. Doesn't matter if they are leaving gear there or not.

The drummer isnt happy about it either. He has over $2k worth of cymbals on his kit, and he pointed out that while the heads on his drums are not regularly replaced, they are still a "consumable". Someone has to pay for them when then need to be replaced.
That is pretty much where I am at. We have already run in to a, "Can we move practice to another night?" issue with this. Why am I paying for a space I cant leave gear in, or use when ever I want?
+1 to this. my guitarist has been recording for years and has awesome mics and preamps. it makes life much easier when you can record in house.
Problem is this band is an earner. Gig this coming weekend, friday and saturday night. I personally should be making $350, plus drinks/food. Just because we earn, doesnt mean that our space should be used for free by others. It doesnt mean my gear should be up for grabs either.
Are you earning because of the singer/guitar player or is he replaceable if this situation really comes to a head?
