Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Yeah the code yeller is just definitely taking the first shot anyway.

yea yeller would be smart to use the code "try the break room!" Then high tail it.

At school we were supposed to huddle in a corner with the lights off. As if the killer would think suddenly it was a holiday and no one was there. Really we just created a bunch of mass targets huddled as far from doors as possible. I should take the stapler and my chances out side

I dunno, man. Different strokes, but every song was structured pretty much the same...and too 'girly' for my tastes. Feelings don't rock

Haha! True about feelings not rocking - but they're from Iceland so maybe things are different there. I'll give them a pass anyway.

It's that or go see one my co-workers' jam band on Saturday night. I'll take Icelandic feelings over watered down Phish any day of the week. :D

If you're handy enough to mod the cap, you can probably build a kit. I've been eyeing this one for a while-
250+ – Build Your Own Clone
One of their cheapest and easiest kits, if you're building from scratch it's easy enough to mod for bass.

Man few things annoy me more than perfectly glorious-sounding guitar amps with cheap multi-FX units thrown in front. Lots of things sound good into a JCM800. Most overdrives sound great into the hi input, heck a $30 c-list Boss SD-1 would sound great. Even an EQ pedal boosting select mid freqs can sound awesome.
A guitarist who can't/won't get/stay in tune is one of those things that annoys me more than the above. I played with a guitarist who had this fancy rackmount tuner, but didn't have it plugged into his signal chain- he had to unplug from his rig to use it. And being a Floyd Rose addict, of course he was slightly out of tune OFTEN. Hopefully in this day and age of the Snark he's not doing that anymore. If you have a Snark or something similar, that could be solution. If you just hand it to him without saying a word whenever he needs it, hopefully he'll soon get the hint.
I was thinking of this one:

Anybody know any reason to go with one over the other? It gives directions for the '77 version, which is supposedly middier. Which I want as well. It's also about $14 cheaper! Any info on cap size to replace it with? And actual cap to replace? This would be my first build, and I've never soldered before. I've got a friend who will be teaching me.

Be warned, gas goes up exponentially when you can mod and fix gear.

Well, then thankfully my GAS is incredibly low right now. I really only want a delay for my guitar board. And no real GAS to speak of for my bass. I mean, the DOD250 clone would be nice, but it's nowhere near essential. I'm interested more in the skills I'd learn making this so that I could fix/mod basic stuff. It'd be cool. And if I can make a few cool pedals, so be it. Maybe some of my local buddies would give me some cash to make some clones for them instead of buying overpriced used ones!

Had some fun recording today...nine tracks of Rickenbacker filthiness.

Hmm, I hadn't come across this General Guitar Gadgets version. I don't see a reason not to go that route and save 14 bucks.
Looks like there are some pre-existing threads about mods for more bass

gaining confidence in modding and repair can be somewhat dangerous, you could eventually end up like me, I was practically operating a shelter for abused and neglected vintage Traynor tube heads at one point.

Never listened to Solstafir recordings before, but live they are a great bit of fun. Definitely worth checking out.

I haven't spent much time listening to Solstafir and I've never seen them live. They are coming to my town in less than two weeks. Nothing against the erstwhile Icelanders, but out of pure selfishness I have to say that I hope most stoner-doom-heavy-underground music fans in Phoenix choose to go to the Hex Volt - Twingiant - Chiefs - Noise-A-Tron - The Well - Destroyer Of Light show happening that same night (May 14) instead!!

oooohh. I've seen one of those in the wild only once. Joel "Devilneck" Martin had one as part of his bass rig when he filled in for Zoroaster a couple years ago. That was a FAAAAT sound... though to be honest it was impossible to tell where Will Fiore's guitar ended and Joel's bass began.
