Volt Thrower. Finally wized up and started running mine at 18v and it sounds ruthless. Everyone should power it thusly is they can.

Thinking back to when I bought the WF & VT, I expected to like the WF more but VT won out in the end.

Edit: my other Rat is a Turbo Rat with LM308, FXDoctor bass mod (and pwr supply mod to Boss-style); the VT is far superior, esp. the EQ controls. Way more options via the tone selector, too. Not a one-trick pony.

Edit 2: Wouldn't mind trying DSOM or DSOM Deluxe one day.

Yeah, it doesn't get much easier than clipping one leg of a resistor. I've read that it increases bass response slightly. I don't really use it for a high-gain distortion on bass so maybe it would be just want I want.

shag it, I'm going to try it. Easily reversible if I don't end up liking it.

Yep, same here. On my 16th birthday I got some money and wanted a half stack. Went to the pawn shop and got a squeaky-clean Sentura II with a crate 4x12 full of Celestion greenbacks for $350. It was old junk that didn't say Marshall or Ampeg on it, as far as the pawn shop guy was concerned it was junk.

Now any dumbass with a computer can look up prices online. So, even if the prices hadn't skyrocketed the era of finding awesome deals like that is gone. Everybody knows what everything is worth.

Help help, my time machine got stuck on my trip back to 1994. I exceeded it's weight rating by loading it up with 70's Sunns, Traynors, Sliverface Fenders, and a mammoth pile of mid-1980's JCM800's. If I could only make it back to 2015, I'll be RICH!!!!

If I think back to all the gear that I bought for $100 and sold or traded in for slightly less that's now probably easily worth 5 times that, I'll get real sad.

I bought my JCM800 for $400 and sold it for $500. I see them listed for $800 or higher sometimes and wish I had held onto it. On the other hand I'm trying to sell both my Traynor and my VTM 120 for less than the going rate right now and have ZERO traction. So who knows what the f*ck is going on with selling stuff right now. Maybe everyone just lists high prices and sells it for less or not at all.

if you look at the what stuff listed for vs sold for on reverb you see how it goes. The new product retailers prices might drop a dollar or two, but used gear drops like crazy pretty often.

It's a matter of how eager you are to move it and market saturation that really determine what you get for your gear.
