Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

What's up? Leg infection? Is it hurting? Someone put a Minnie ball in their civil war reenactment musket?

First off, those Civil War buffoons are pussies. I do Crimean reenactment.

As for the hospital staycation, I have a history of bad infections getting into my legs. I've lost three toes to this and have come very close to full leg amputation and death more than once.

I moved a bunch of crap to help out at work last week then my left leg started hurting like blazes. Thought I had just pulled a muscle but then it got red and swollen and hot.

Came to get antibiotics and the nazis insisted on admitting me for observation and I.V. meds. If I didn't comply they would not have treated me at all for going agaist medical advice.

I got no blood clots or blockages...they ultrasounded the leg...but it's still swollen and painful.

Tired of this.

If I didn't have a family I would probably just check out from life altogether. Cue dramatic music...

Jesus, sorry to hear that, I figured it was a one time thing unrelated to the toe incident you mentioned.

Do you got the sugar?

Oh yeah. For 12 years. Takes its toll. But I'm doing a lot better. Barely smoke, cut out most crap food...unfortunately I have to really limit my beer and spirits intake.

I was also exercising a lot until my feet started acting up again.

I've lost 200 pounds in the last 3-4 years. Still like to lose 50-60 more, then I'll be set as far as dumping all the chub I need to.

For now, my diabetes is still reversible, and that's my goal.

I'm so scared of diabetes. My grandpa has it and he doesn't ever drink, but he does love little Debbie's and watching the military channel all day. He's not big, but he doesn't try to be healthier. His could be reversible

I was 265 in early 2013, and before 2014 I was 160, stayed around there since and trying to maintain.

YOU CHECK YOUR BLOOD SUGAR AND YOU CHECK IT OFTEN.

AND EAT YER GERD DERM OATMEAL!

Hey guys, I'm looking for a new tune head that can get the doom sound. However, it HAS to be new and finance-able through sweet water.

I like the SVT VR, The AD200B, the V4, the bassman 100T, and the fender super bassman. So it's currently a shoutout between those. I want a fat, overdriven tone. Think of the come my fanatics/dopethrone sound. My questions are:

1.How many watts is enough to get that tube overdrive, without stomps, and still compete with loud band members?

2. Can the 100T and Super Bassman cop that Old Sunn tube amp tone?

3. Can they cop an old orange tone?

4. Are the new AD200B's ANYTHING like the old ones, and is there any way to get it to sound the same without spending $200+ in a shop?

5. Can the Orange cop a bassman sound, and if not, how can I get it to sound the same?

Thank you for your time. I look forward to all your ideas.

Since you are buying in the US, then doing an EU tour, it is a window licking idea to buy a tube amp. You would have to have it converted to 240V, then back to 115V on your return.

before I answer I need to understand your cab situation. what are you planning on using?

This is the bigger indicator of volume.

SVT 810E

By the way, I should clarify I will be using provided back line in europe
if you're using 1 810E then stick to lower wattage. an 810 will be at it's limits and sound like shvt with an overdriven svt. 2 810s would ve able to manage it and sounds way better.

with 1 810, keep it to 100-150 watts max. my vote would be for a V4.

Turned out we actually had a practice today. Guitarist found some practice space on the other side of town. I got to play an SVT3Pro (never played one before) through an Ampeg 810, so that's a plus. Loved my sound. P bass + RAT + Ampeg = bliss. I don't even use my fuzzes lately.
Unfortunately, we just didn't glue today. Every riff we tried to develop was going nowhere.

The good side is we practice a lot lately. The bad - I think we gotta change how the band works because two songs in one year is not the way it works (I think).

Sounds good.
Though the Fender 100t will give you the overdrive tone your looking for at several volumes.

well I assumed be overdriven amp that we're talking about power tube OD not preamp drive. if we're talking about preamp drive then anything with a master volume would work with an 810.

That's what I'm after.

Actually I was referring to power tube distortion.

Also I believe the DI is after the output transformer IIRC.
