What does the matamp use?

As far as I know, the fender uses the FMV for the "vintage" channel and the OD channel has an active EQ with the mid select.

So a V4 will sound closer to matamp/old orange?

*edit* oh I see. So the Ampeg is closer in terms of tone stack. So what can get the ampeg to sound closer?

closer than the others you mentioned. just need to cut the lows since ampegs are voiced with a bass boost. matamp is a lot more flat.

Are those new fenders FMV too? Even with that mid select and graphic EQ? I might be thinking of the wrong fender head, but all the new ones seem more complicated.

The overdrive channel may not be scooped by default.
That's beyond my knowledge.

It does.
But that's just a circuit topology. Which is to say general structure. Like an outline drawn from above.
The individual frequency centers in each control can and do vary from brand to brand.
So the specific differences once the controls are in use can result in different sounds.

Really though I'd say go try one first. We can talk all day about circuit topologies but how you use it is more important than anything.

Idk if anyone is comfortable telling you what amp to buy for $1000+ When you've never heard them for the potential it might sound like an amp it isn't.

There's some kind of shortage of tube amps in Northern California. Nobody's carrying them. Not even the SF GC.

the V4 should be able to get you there. it won't sound as tight as that matamp though. It may get a bit more fuzzy/farty sounding since the ampegs have a big spike in the 100Hz range that make them sound bassier. the key is to know how to control that low end. start with the built in EQ but you may want to consider some sort of HPF like an FDeck.

this is actually a pretty good video. you can hear how the newer Oranges AD140 and AD200 have that mid scoop due to the FMV EQ. One of those amps with the dark sounding Ampeg 810s would be a nightmare for me. all lows with no real definition. You can hear the flatter sound of the vinatge orange and matamp. you can aslo hear that the V4 is closer to the matamp than the AD200. The V4 has the extra lows which make it sound a bit rounder and fuzzier, but as I said i think with a bit of EQ you can get close.

@Pills Are Yummy ...Im with sam, get a V4 if you want straight amp dirt. BUT depending how loud your band is, it might not be enough, if I was financing a brand new amp through sweetwater Id go big and get the SVT VR and a pedal for the dirty, if you dont want to deal with pedals just also have it always on and put it on top of the amp. The SVT is garanteed to be loud enough.

GH just got added to the line up of a show this week with WOLF BLOOD from Duluth, those dude are fvcking phenomenal live, on par with ATW for best live performances. Drummer is pulling double, actually triple, duty with his other band AND the show is right after openning night for play hes acting in.

I'm looking for some good "starter" songs that either have Isolated bass tracks on Youtube, or have the bass really forward in the mix. I'd like to start training my ear for Stoner/Doom bass.

Any recommendations? I've done some work with Sabbath already... Any others?

Late night at the drive i last night. San Andreas and Mad Max. Andreas was ok, entertaining enough. Mad Max was awesome, no surprise there. Got home about 2 am, tried to sleep in but the neighbors dog started barking early, then the neighborhood kid that they foster/big brother came over to help in their garden. Hard to be mad at them for that.

Gardening today, grilling later. Hopefully also chopping up practice tracks into rough songs.

I love that hills have eyes interlude wish it was longer. I was playing mountains of Mars and hills have eyes last night in the car and it scares my puppy a bit lol.

This weekend has been pretty nuts. First off, this family will always have a place for a dog. It hurts losing Molly, but in her honor, we have rescued another dog. She's a two year old stray from the humane society. This was her last weekend, so I feel really glad about stepping in.

The fest was nuts. Got to meet with and hang with some really cool people. I got trashed on night one. Night two I was still recovering and ended up leaving early. But, what I did see was awesome.
