spent yesterday giving the former college lineman drummer bass lessons for the noise pop/electro clash band, the action on his basses was so bad and the strings were so old it was insane, the one p bass was so dirty my fingers had black lines form the strings on them, he categorically refuses to play his super sweet vintage magenta ibanez sr 800, instead we had some weird short scale bc rich warlock and an indonesian squier p with electrical problems and a bowed neck, he was trying to trade me the ibanez for one of my nude lady drawings, but i was insistent that i just wanted the cash, the sludge/doom band that he is playing drums in will be doing scentless apprentice by nirvana in slow motion as a drone next, hopefully i have a bass that i can do drop tuning with without having to mess around with the setup, i realized that my action must be way lower than i thought after playing his basses

GH just got added to the line up of a show this week with WOLF BLOOD from Duluth, those dude are fvcking phenomenal live, on par with ATW for best live performances. Drummer is pulling double, actually triple, duty with his other band AND the show is right after openning night for play hes acting in.

Hmmm. Then perhaps a dummy load/power sink type thing plus an act would be best. Then maybe a muff with germanium diodes.

the V4 should be able to get you there. it won't sound as tight as that matamp though. It may get a bit more fuzzy/farty sounding since the ampegs have a big spike in the 100Hz range that make them sound bassier. the key is to know how to control that low end. start with the built in EQ but you may want to consider some sort of HPF like an FDeck.

this is actually a pretty good video. you can hear how the newer Oranges AD140 and AD200 have that mid scoop due to the FMV EQ. One of those amps with the dark sounding Ampeg 810s would be a nightmare for me. all lows with no real definition. You can hear the flatter sound of the vinatge orange and matamp. you can aslo hear that the V4 is closer to the matamp than the AD200. The V4 has the extra lows which make it sound a bit rounder and fuzzier, but as I said i think with a bit of EQ you can get close.

What's an fdeck and what does it do? It looks just like a db preamp with a phase inverter.

I would have to agree with max, 100W probably isn't going to cut it for a loud stoner/doom band. I mentioned it in your other thread but I'd look for a used 2-Pro. Dime the gain and OD knobs and you'll get some killer grit. I know a lot of folks disagree with me, but an SVT isn't that loud. I'm pushing mine with the master at 2-3:00 just to keep up with a drummer and guitar player. In this genre at least, it's easy to get a 300W power section cooking.

I played that gig in the video with just the v4b/810/Gibson grabber. Had a muff on most of the time but it was plenty loud with the full stack on the other side of the stage. It's all about those freq's. Also the fdeck cuts unneeded super low end bass freq (high pass filter) that waste power and the speaker won't work as hard.

There's a good chance his 810e has got an efficiency edge on your 2, 115s.

Oh you know Tim? His rig from what I've seen is a muff> small stone > svt > 810

Should just do that
