There was a deal in Las Vegas quite a few years where people were stealing mail/checks sent to Nevada Power and changing it to the biz Nevada Bowery. Something along those lines. Crooked shiz.

You tap the metal pole pieces with like a screw driver or other iron based object when plugged in to hear a tap. You can also just put the ground and lead wires of the pickups to a jack or just hold them up to the lead and ground portion of your cable tip.

I think if it got at least bass vi tuners, and threaded inserts for any screws in stressed areas like the bridge and neck it would hold up a lot better and prevent a lot of the issues it has without compromising its integrity and uniqueness.

But then I might as well just save some scratch and contact joes guy and see about a dano 4003

I still haven't been able to contact anyone at the IRS, but the check and correspondence are legit.

I've been thinking about it and at this time last year my wife's mother's health was declining rapidly, and she was trying to figure out power of attorney for both her mother her sister while still holding down 2 jobs. I was busy at work, spending my free time signing up for school and packing/moving/cleaning.

We also had ongoing trouble with the mail at the old apartment, lots of stuff never arrived or went to the wrong address.

So, considering all of that it's entirely possible that the check just never arrived, or if it did arrive it didn't get deposited. We both had a lot of other things on our mind.

I'm hoping I can get someone at the IRS on the phone this afternoon to confirm that we won't get audited/penalized in the future because of a mistake on their end.

One way to reverse detective is go back in the thread and scour a thousand pages this time last year to see if you bought anything with your return and mentioned it.

No, I haven't spent return money on anything in a few years - it all goes straight into the savings account. Stopping at the bank after work to have them pull the savings account records to see if there was a deposit last year, then attempting to contact IRS one last time before we keep the money.

Oh cool. I figured you might already know about them. Strat and Tele style, not to mention their 'buckers and Gretsch-types all seem to get really positive reviews. I was considering getting the "Brighton" set of Strat pups for this old Strat copy I have. They are supposed to be really nice. I think the intention was to get into "Brian May" territory...like they are loosely modeled on the old Burns Tri-Sonic pickups, but in Strat size.

I've heard really good things. I know some guitar sites I've seen people doing shootouts between these and other much pricier pickups and the GFS stuff has really held its own.

I got a buddy who recently redid an old Epi Les Paul. He ordered some GFS "Surf 90" pickups from GFS (they were on sale at the time) and says they are just smoking hot. Just like a P-90 on steroids. Not sure why they are called "Surf 90s" but he says they are some of the fattest and creamiest pickups he's ever encountered.

I used to have a Dean 8 string. It was a decent enough bass, but I would really like to have another 8 someday. It's a seriously underused instrument. They sound great on anything from jangle-pop to doom. Back in the early 80s I remember seeing several Hondo branded 8 strings and they were pretty damn nice.

I've gotten into "somewhat-near kinda like 8 string" territory with octave dividers, but it'll never be the same thing. Just like I don't think you can really replicate a 12 string guitar with anything other than a 12 string guitar.

been waiting on my 2011 adjusted return refund check for a very long time, apparently the irs isn't too forthright about mistakes or fixing mistakes, they did however initially write me that i adjusted wrong, which i didn't, then they told me i must have received the check, because they sent it, this was not the case either

Hell no, not on THEIR end. But bygod you better believe if YOU make a mistake, no matter how small or how honest, they'll be all over you like ugly on a beat up ape. I found that out the hard way a month or so ago.

If they claim they can confirm they sent you a check, they sure as hell should be able to confirm whether or not you cashed that check.

Yeah, love those guys. They were from Portland but the whole 4 years I lived there I never heard of them playing in town.

I read somewhere that they played gigs a lot more often on the East Coast and in Europe and for some reason played very rarely in Portland.

Now I guess they are more or less defunct. At least I heard there were no more plans to tour but maybe they'll still drop an album now and then.

I have a strat with their 60s style pickups in a hand wired pickguard that sounds great, and I had a Mean 90 in another guitar that was awesome. Have yet to try their bass pickups, but GFS overall is legit.

They're having a sale right now too.
