Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I have a strat with their 60s style pickups in a hand wired pickguard that sounds great, and I had a Mean 90 in another guitar that was awesome. Have yet to try their bass pickups, but GFS overall is legit.

Yeah, I think I might just pick some up. The tech I took it to was worthless. He told me exactly what I already told him, but at least he didn't charge me. The only local guy that I know has crazy shop hours and is closed already. There's always GC, but I wouldn't trust them to repair my guitar. I'm thinking that I could just pick up ALL the electronics for the guitar, gut it, and that would guarantee that the current electronics wouldn't sabotage anything. I've got a buddy who would likely be willing to help me solder anything in there. It's tempting...

What do you think, doomers? Should I go to the guy that knows his stuff in town but is a bit flaky, or start the electronics from scratch? Mind you, I still don't know what the exact problem is. In short, the guitar passes no signal, even when grounded, but all electrical connections seem to check out with a multimeter. No clue what this could be.

Been considering aluminum necks or an 8-string, then I found an aluminum neck 8-string. Uh-oh, might be lusting!

I read the warlock listing and it pretty much says "don't tune this bass to standard, the neck will snap in half!"

I'd ask to me meet him at the shop that quoted him $40 so you ask them what's wrong/get that price. Also confirms his story

So over the last few months I've been testing this coupon code I have for this place down the street and it still works. Gives me two 1/4 chickens, 4 sides, two rolls, drinks and sauces for between $5.40 and $6.58 depending on who rings it up.

Forty bucks? How about 10 minutes with a screwdriver to open it up and put the speaker wire back on the speaker spade terminal where it vibrated off!

Yea that would be easy enough, I was just skeptical that there might be a chance drivers are blown.

Not impossible but with all 4 bottom out, sounds strongly like a loose wire.
Then again the top 4 "working" might just be a loud wet fart. The head coming with it means you've got a $100 empty 810 and a dice roll at 8 working speakers.
It's a steal.

No-go on the aluminum 8 string. Also been lusting for a Moog synth and I may have an good opportunity for one.

Oh man, that would sure fit my needs and my wallet!

I've played through these and they are better than you'd expect for what they are.

Only real problem is getting to it. Afraid for the $ it'd take to get it in hand I'd spend enough that i could get something locally. Hmmm.

There are several CL offerings locally i am thinking about. Still love to get a head and a 410 or 215 cab but i need a stopgap yesterday.
