I'm not old, I'm vintage.
Fuq. I must have had a busy week at work that week.
SB-2 needs to sell so I can sate these dually fantasies. Haven't had any luck on reverb or CL. I had thought that it would be a very quick turn around on TB because SB-2s normally do not last that long. My patience must persist.
Alright, so I got the guitar working, but here's the question - new pickups? The stock ones sound great. But I bought the Crunchy PATS from GFS before I fixed the guitar, and they're on the way. I guess really what I'm asking is this - how hard is it to wire pickups? If I have to rewire everything, it's a no go. If I just de-solder a wire each and remove the old ones, then solder a wire and install the new ones, I'm all game. I just don't want to have to rewire the switch, run the wires again, redo all the pots, etc. What do you think? And would these pickups be substantially better than stock to warrant the work?
As far as the Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir talk going around, I still enjoy some old Dimmu. Cradle has a few songs worth listening to, but not many. If I'm gonna listen to some black metal, give me Immortal, Dissection, Emperor, Limbonic Art, Agalloch... I could keep going, but I won't.

If I was still playing with any regularity, it would have already sold.
Glad you got the guitar working! It should be as simple as desolder/resolder the wires for the pickups, but would not be any more difficult to just overhaul it. But if you like it as is and it is functional, why fix it more?
Mostly because I'd have to pay to ship the parts back and return them. Might as well use them instead of wasting more money. So it's just de-solder/solder the two pickup wires? That would be pretty dang easy...
Guitar electrical work is generally pretty easy. Switches can complicate things, but if you take a picture as a reference before you start snipping and just wire it up exactly the same its like LEGOs with directions.

I was just figuring if the pickups only have 1 wire connected to them, then I just have to take care of 1 wire each. I can remember where green and red go in the cavity. That's pretty simple.
You may have more then two wires so you can wire it split coil with a coil tap switch or series /parallel stuff but it still isn't hard to do. To run it normal(without a split coil switch) it will say something like twist red to green wire together. Don't let that bother you as it is still simple. Just giving you a heads up if you see more then two wires on the pickups.
Cool. Thanks. I'll look when I get them and decide. Back to another aspect of this project, though. Anybody think that the GFS "Crunchy PATs" are significantly better than stock? I mean, is it worth it? I've got a buddy here who's looking for a set of pickups cheap for an old beater he's fixing up, so if I don't use them, he will. Just wondering if it's a big enough upgrade to merit the work, of if I won't even notice the difference. Thanks as always!
This cracked me up. I listened to (more than) my share of DB back then, but I had almost completely forgotten about Cradle of Filth. They never grabbed me much.
I shudder when I think about some of the pretentious, mopey stuff I was into in a big way back in the 80s. Very little of it holds up well today and I look back and think at least I didn't wear eyeliner.

I talked your SB-2 up on the Basses forum last night. A guy was talking about how much he wanted one, was having trouble finding one in stock anywhere or something. I didn't link to your sale but just mentioned that there was a totally hot SB-2 in the classifieds right now at what was a killer deal.
