Just have to work out the funding for the tickets. I want to buy a house in 2015 and stop tossing away rent. Oh and I want to be able to be loud with out some person 7 feet away pissing and moaning about how the bass cuts through the apartment wall.
The only things I don't like about owning a home are it seems like something always needs to be repaired and you are stuck in one location. But no close proximity neighbors is so awesome.
Well. Here's my 2 cents: You have a goal of a house, which will require X amount of dollars. You have a new gig, and some back pay coming in. A trip to Hawaii is not a small investment, especially if it's going to be multiple persons. (Taking the free housing into account.) Personally, I would forego a trip to the islands, for now. Find yourself a nice house, take the 3 weeks of PTO to leisurely make all the tweaks to said new house, then after you have all those expenses sorted, then plan the nice vacation.

I wish I had a picture of my face when I walked in... I've been on the phone for over an hour and was waiting to get off to walk in but decided I'd better say "hey here but on the phone". I thought I walked in on him cranking one out or something so I had to practice swift composure.
Good news is I locked in my internet another year for $10 less!
Hate to be the one to tell you, but if you need to take your shirt off to get to your genits you might need to get checked out.

Whew. I hear you. Been working 32 years solid and never had a vacation. Since I was 14 at least.
Closest I've ever come was those times when I was moving a long distance from one job to another and had a week or so to get to the new place. Got to see some scenery and spend a few nights in a hotel, but also included was packing up, loading a truck, hauling our sh!t, unloading a truck and unpacking on the other end while securing a place to live, getting utilities turned on, etc.
Almost more hectic than a job.
I think I want to eventually buy a home. It's the only investment most Americans have. I've just moved around so frequently in my life the idea of one static "HQ" place is very foreign to me. At my age, I like the idea of the stability, but I don't know how well I'd adjust to the feeling of "Well, THIS is home!" and not knowing in the back of my mind I had the freedom to twist off, pull up stakes and light out for the territories again. Gypsy blood I guess.
If I do land a good-enough paying job in a nice area of one of the states we've been looking at and applying for jobs in, we may well put down roots after being there a year or so to see how well we'd like it for the Long Haul.
Guess we could always take vacations to see new places and still have a more or less permanent "home" to come back to. I am growing into the idea of "this is OURS."
There's just enough mystery and stuff left to the imagination for that pic to be plenty sexy.
For some guys, anyway.
Hey dudes. Really killer practice last night, got one of our longer tunes fleshed out, added a couple more parts, it's shaging sounding awesome, i had goosebumps and a big poopie-eating grin the whole time. Really shaging impressed with what we've got so far. Next task is to get us set up for practice room recording. That'll be fun!
Man I love having a Waterstone again, such a comfy bass to play. Ordered nuts for the Jazzguarbird and the Jackson Outcaster guitar(crazy comfy wide shred neck on thing, really digging this guitar and think it is a keeper). Never removed a nut on a guitar so that will be scary but people filed them down way too much and they need to be swapped.
Totally random but I am getting one of these for Micah for his birthday. Looks simpler to fly then the helicopters he has had in the past. Only forty bucks too, well but I had to accessorize with rubber soft landing feet and prop guards.

+1. Kicking in the tone bypass is like having a second pedal on my BB. NOt over the top, but ripping, SNARLING tonez.
See, I would have said the exact opposite: Once you have the house, you will always have a running list of poopie to do that makes you feel guilty for being away for a week or two. And you have to have people check in on the house, or mow the lawn and collect the mail, take care of pets, etc while you're gone. You can always buy a house, you may not ever have this much time on your hands to REALLY enjoy the trip.

Yer a Tele guy. Only guitar I still have is an old Rondo/SX "STL50" model, old headstock, vintage white, maple board.
It also went through the flood, but once again, neck is okay, bridge seems salvageable, only real body damage I can see is some finish cracking.
Electronics are dead as Dillinger.
Thinking of bringing it back...have to get new wiring harness, jack, probably get some nicer vol/tone knobs...
Was wondering if you had any ideas or suggestions on replacement pickups? You ever try GFS for Tele replacements? I don't wanna sink a ton of $$$ in. Also probably stick with pretty traditional Tele pups...I like more vintage Tele, but something that can get fuzzy and dirty too.

See, that's ANOTHER thing that makes me hinky about home ownership. Renting, it is true you get no return on your money other than a roof over your head, but hey---roof leaking? Plumbing effed up? An appliance goes south? Something amiss with the electrical? Pick up phone, call landlord, voila. Free of charge. Also, foundation troubles and big issues like that? Not. My. Problem.
That is, if you have a decent landlord, but I've had good luck with them most of the places I've lived.
My old man just spent around $10K to get some roof repairs and electrical work done at his house. He still owes $50K + on the house (I think) and his mortgage isn't much less than my rent.
Plus, some states the property taxes are so damn high.
I just don't know.
I have GFS strat pickups (60s version) and a P90. They're good value pickups, at least as good as MIM Fender models at the entry level, and probably pretty good the further up the food chain you go. Try the Texas or Hot wound ones.
If you're gonna be in a place for 5+ years, and have decent enough luck, owning makes sense. We bought in '09, sold in '14, and broke even after Realtor fees. But that doesn't include all the stupid stuff one has to buy (lawn mower, appliances, etc) and minor repairs and such along the way (painting, screens, etc).
I will say I do not really miss the lawn and general repair related stuff, but I do very much miss the "MY HOUSE" aspect. I play bass and guitar, I AM the noisy neighbor, and it just works better in a SFH.
But the last couple summers with no yardwork and a big azz pool someone else takes care of, along with the fringe benefits of living fairly close to a couple colleges, I have been enjoying renting
