Dude, if your tuner is squealing, I think there might be something seriously wrong with it. :p

That's a fair opinion. I guess with enough speakers it would be nice and loud. But it is still the quietest amp larger than a practice amp I've ever owned.

I despise nickel. They only sound good to me when less than a week or so old, and they make my hands stink. Like Jolagh I go for a pretty dirty tone. I use DR hi beams or Kaliums. Kaliums are not everyone's jam, but I have liked every set I have had thus far.

When I played it into my basic in the living room it was pretty loud for only being 200 watts at 2 ohms and it was only at 8 ohms. Most I ever pushed it was 4 ohms and even then I didn't like how it sounded dirty and it broke up too soon to use loud if it could. it needed a pedal. The problem was at louder settings where things open up it dirtied up, and too quiet and the dirt pedal made it sound too squished.

With my guitar into the two peavey 4x10 columns it was very loud and didn't need any pedals. Maybe I'm not used to truly loud, but that guitar setup hurt me for sure.

Might be affected by the fact that I don't care about clean. Only loud.

Yeah, definitely affected by me not really giving a crap if an amp is still clean when it gets loud.

I've always found GHS strings too... well.... boomy.

I like tuner last, too. Acts as a mute. For some reason, when my tuner was at the beginning, some signal would leak through and get gnarly in the dirt and it'd be less-than-muted.

Also, jammed the BSW in second band tonight. Didn't cut as well through guitar as I hoped, but I may try to tweak it. Sounded good on a couple solo'd parts, though. Still need to record a sample. I broke out the Behringer Bass Synth and that fared much better with band mix.

So, I was pretty pissed off at work today.

One of the machines broke, and the mechanic immediately blamed a coworker of mine, who was in another part of the factory at the time, and said all sorts of mean poopie about him, calling him lazy, all sorts of crap.

The mechanic is on salary, makes a good living, has paid vacation. He was on vacation when I started.

Dude he was ranting about makes what I make ($11/hour), despite him having been there for two years, having lots of experience and being highly skilled, and me having been there a month and not being good at anything. This dude also comes in an hour early every day (with boss's okay, obviously, for the overtime)... so, 7:00 AM.

Also, immediately jumping to blame the dude who knows how poopie works, rather than the dude who doesn't know how poopie works and due to being a newbie, gets all the poopie work in that department (like oiling the machines). If it was anyone's fault, it was probably mine.

But then, I'm white and the dude the mechanic (also white) was ranting about isn't. Not saying it's definitely racism, but I'm not saying it isn't, either.

Salad with romaine, spinach, and mixed greens topped with cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and onions. Rice pilaf. Grilled chicken topped with roasted corn salsa, and an Anaheim chili citrus emulsification.

Total shopping list included 15 pounds of chicken, 10 ears of corn, all the veggies, a poopie ton of herbs, onions, and rice.

As others have said... Depends on what kind of tone your looking for. I was Rotosound Stainless guy only for years. Fell out of favor due to them beating the crap out of my frets. Lately have settled on D'Addario EXP for the tone and tension feeling right. I'm using .130 for B standard tuning.
Been interested in using some Dunlop bright sets lately and see if they zing more than the EXP. Issue is the tension tuned to B needs to snap for the band I'm in.
These Hex cores on the EXP have been the bees knees for a almost two years now. Changed to a new set just before recording at the beginning of summer.
I have tried a few of the Kalium set's in smaller gauges and worked ok in drop D but once we switched to B standard it just felt to floppy. Hence the switch to the EXP.
Takes some experimentation at times to find what works for you.

Testing a bass cab I just recently picked up used a mustang with flats on it. First time I'd ever touched a flatwound string in my life. Was really shocked how much tension they have.

I think the TU-2 (what I use) is buffered. That is why I put it at the end of the chain. I need not the buffering into the fuzz.

@Sartori I can respect that and generally agree with you. But I also agree with Bryce. I just don't like the sound of that amp broken up due to cranking. I have others that pull that schtick far better. It's not a bad amp and in a lot of applications could be a great amp. For my needs, I may as well be yelling the bass parts as it would probably be more effective.

I have never cared for GHS or Ernie Ball. They just never spoke to me. I love rotosound, but they always seem to lose their magic after a couple days. They are incredible when fresh though. I have been a DR guy for many winters. First exclusively hi beams. Now I largely prefer fat beams. My T40 is so dark sounding that I need hi beams to get the grind I am looking for. As far as Kaliums, I use .126 balanced tension drop tuned sets and tune them to C standard. Tightens up the low string just a hair and keeps from being to floppy in A#.
