Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I've only been to Chicago once when I was like in 7th grade and my mom gave me these jeans one night and I told her they felt really tight and she said it just got dried to hard then.

We walked like all over, eat a big pizza Chicago style. Then I'm like ohhhh my balls. Turned out mom had given me her jeans and I was in a hurry to get dressed. I was so embarrassed I had to hold both parents hands and like skip walk like a war casualty for like a mile before they broke down and hailed a cab to bring my crushes balls back to the room to decompress.

Cool story bro.

Your new nickname is Mom Jeans, btw.

Rough practice last night. Everyone is tired from work. But at least were all working. Show this weekend at the Golden Bull should be a hoot.
I see Satori and Catapult the Dead will be playing the same venue soon as well. I can make that one for sure as it's a practice night. Will make for a drag ass Thursday but that's ok.

T45 alert.
Vintage 80's Peavey T-45 Bass w/ Original Case. Made In USA!

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

This is a 1982 Peavey T-45 Bass; all original and in great condition for its age. The T-45 is the single pickup cousin to the T-40 Bass of the same era. These early T-Series guitars are very solid instruments with great hardware and build quality. [...]

That is a sweet instrument. Why the **** do I even look at other basses besides peaveys??!? For whatever reason my fury and T40 have killed ALL other bass gas in ways I have never experienced. One day it would be cool to own a Lull or a MM Sabre, but I can't help but ask myself: Why???

The Sword, Kadavar and All Them Witches coming to Iowa City. Good gig, hopefully I can make that night.

Do one better. Get on that ****ing bill. Do it. Do it now.

The Sword, new album tomorrow.

I hear you, I try not to be a Peavey cult guy but the Kool-aid is soo tasty!

I had a Fantasy Football draft party last night (I don't even watch football) and I drank too much to drive home but I walked to a pawn shop next to the bar and picked up a Spector for $130, no idea what it is, probably shouldn't have bought it. Pictures tommorow.

I am only a one foot in kvltist. I love my peavey basses, but I do not really care for the amps as much. I have a bass 400 and it's OK. The clean sound isn't terrible but it isn't super flexible and anyone who thinks it is a loud amp has not experienced a loud amp. Not that it wouldn't do well for a small gig, but it certainly will not doom. That is just my opinion. I used to have a peavey microbass practice amp that I actually liked a lot, but it didn't even compare to an Eden practice amp that I currently have. I gave that away to a kid who's mom I worked with who couldn't afford a birthday present and wanted to get her son something to encourage him to play music. I sold her a parts bass I put together for $50 and gave her the microbass and a cable. I felt like half of a good samaritan after that. I'd love to get my hands on a 3620 though. Those cabs look sweet and I did love the black widow in my old sunn 215b.

Help a brother out. Drop some knowledge on me. Actually help TWO brothers out. I have Turkeypills' Peavey Fury that I acquired on CL. It has no case. I must ship it to him. Believe it or not, in my 39 years, I've never shipped a guitar anywhere.

it seems to me there are two approaches
Double Box- pack it tightly inside a cardboard box - pack THAT box inside a cardboard box. go.
Get a case- immobilize Fury securely inside padded case. pack case inside cardboard box. go.

I just stopped by UPS store to see what options they may have. Of course they have no off-the-shelf boxes available. Gentleman said they'd have to custom make a box and that runs $30-40. Of course that goes inside ANOTHER custom box, another $30-40. few more bucks for random packing materials. Now we're creeping close to $100 before the thing even gets on the scale.

I have briefly searched for a used case. None on CL, none at local GC. no new standalone cases at GC. Cheapest new case? $49.99 online. Slightly more than custom cardboard box. Maybe even slightly more durable, who knows.

Very open to suggestions to the best path here.

Get a guitar sized box, at least 2" clearance on all sides. Wrap the instrument in plastic so if the box gets wet it doesn't get damaged. Put some styrofoam on the bottom so if it gets bumped it won't dent anything, pop the instrument in the box and fill the rest with foam peanuts, bubble wrap, wadded up paper, whatever you've got. As long as it's packed in tight with plenty of buffer, it's fine. I've shipped instruments in soft gigbags that might as well be nothing at all with no damage that way. You just want to make sure you get packing material in all the open areas, so the instrument doesn't shake around.
