Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I will add IME, if you want that low loose downtuned tone, you want floppier strings. I just recently found a set of D'addarios that are like 50-120. Its their normal 50-110 with a thicker bottom string. Its perfect for C standard and drop A sharp for me. I tried the bottom 4 of a 5 string set and it was to tight for that loose sound.

My bronco at 30" sounded super evil with its .100 tuned to b.

I think flop and taut both have there merits. taut gives more clanky growl.

This is what I do. But I usually toss the E of a 5 set.

I got nothing gear wise other than swapping nuts on a guitar and bass and waiting to start the double p bass.
Anyone catch the movie Extinction? Picked it up in Redbox the other day and it is a pretty decent zombie flick.
I also started watching The Dead Lands on Netflix last night. Fun flick.

They seem pretty agro, must be pre kava

Took my SG to get the nut knocked off to shim, but got cold feet and took it back to try stringing as is with some 10-52's.

Hex Core is going to be a little more tension so all depends on attack what will work. I went on a light guage string kick for a while but realize my attack needs a tight B. I have one last set of Kallum at .124 and will place these on my Gecko soon. On the fence if I'm going to flip the Black Eagle to BEAD. If I do I'll probably make a brass nut for it so I can keep the original un molested.

My HM-2 arrived today. Freakin' killer on guitar. I noticed a definite difference between it and the clones I've heard. It seems less "squealy" than the Behringer clone or the Fab Tone. Plays much nicer with a gate. Also, it seems to have less high end hiss and more definition. Gonna have to do a blind test tomorrow, as I only had a precious few minutes with it today, but I'm thinking the HM-2 is a clear winner in the field. Also, I'll have to try it on bass, just because. I bought it as a guitar pedal for that Dismember sound, but you never know how things will sound until you try!

HM-2 is greatly indeed. Your wife gonna stomp the pedals for this blind test? Me curious.

Selling a few pedals tomorrow, sold drum stuff all weekend. Found a bronco buyer but he flaked.

Digitech Polara reverb is the next pedal I'm curious about, but the whole new line looks cool. I can live without a noise gate and volume pedal for a bit, but I'll need them eventually too ti tame that squeal.

Got a buddy who has also been craving an HM-2 to do it. He's got the Behringer clone which he says is good enough. I think there is a substantial difference (after that whopping 5 min. I've had, so I'm an expert now of course ;) ). Anyway, he'll be over tonight, we'll try it out.

Snobbo

You're supposed to keep that to yourself so hm-2's don't get even pricier. Tell him stay home you were wrong. Behringer es teh awesomes

I'm damn near zombie'd out. Need to have a giant monster flick come out.

I know, any sized monster film would make me happy and Netflix Instant is just hurting lately. Micah told me they play Zombie Tag at school. It was worth a watch for a zombie flick though, zombies evolving was the idea. I need to start ordering Netflix DVD's again, maybe there are some monster movies or better horror flicks on there. I want to see Valley of the Sasquatch.
The Dead Lands was a real fun epic action film though.
