Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Got me thinking. I currently have:

Black Sovtek (modded)
Green "Tall Font" Sovtek
Bluebeard (w/tone bypass switch)
Magick Fuzz
Swollen Pickle
Blackbeard (ordered)

Don't have the Blackbeard yet so I can't comment on it. Of the others, my "current" favorite is the Magick Fuzz b/c the low end is solid and it has a killer mids control. The Tall Font Sovtek and Swollen Pickle have the most low end, IMO. My Black Sovtek has a clean blend which sounds awesome with, say, a BDPG (or chorus) in front of it. The Bluebeard is easiest to dial in a good sound with, just switch to tone bypass and vol/dist to taste.

Edit: Next muff I may try is a Musket. Muffs I've sold off are: Russian Spy (miss this one :(), El Oso, Fender Sublime, EHX NYC Big Muff, EHX Bass Big Muff.
I hated the musket. Sold it the day after I bought it. But people have different tastes. That pedal was definitely the flavor of the week now you don't really see them as much.

I should fill it with my kava castings.

If you just ate that stuff would you get sick/does it work? Fresh or castings

Think it's more of a guitar oriented pedal. Guitarist I used to play with had one and it was cool.

You can do a second wash and squeeze of the castings to make sure you get all the kavalactones out of it. Some places grind it all up and make micronized kava out of it so you can just mix it right in water but it bothers some people with sensitive stomachs. I usually buy the root and prep and strain it and throw away the castings. But I also have Kava King instant for at work and it doesn't bother my stomach. Just did a 3:30pm shell. Great stuff, easy to mix, and cheap but pretty strong.

Fuzz:

Started with EHX BBM - two best days in my history of owning it: when I bought it and when I sold it.
DBA Fuzz War
Nine Of Swords Twin Earth
ZVex Mastotron
EQD Cloven Hoof
Mountainking Megalith clone

I still own Cloven Hoof and Megalith.
All of that in a year and a half.
My fuzz quest is over. For now.

I'd still love to try some crazy stuff like Devi Ever Ruiner or Dwarfcraft The Great Destroyer, but no extra cash for fuzzy pleasures at the moment.

Hey! You guys! Stop it! I just decided I don't NEED fuzz! And here you go all tramping out these sweet fuzzes...

Anyway, I've owned a handful of fuzzes, I think most were muffs.
EHX Deluxe Bass Big Muff
MXR BFD (Not a muff, if I remember correctly)
Supercollider (loving it on guitar!)
Pharaoh

I feel I've had more, but I guess not. Maybe I'm thinking higher distortion, since many of my fuzz pedals were used lower gain. I got similar tones from my Pharaoh as my DOD250, for instance.

And now, to what I really wanted to talk about. Any suggestions as to what I should get effects wise for my next pedal? Since it seems my dirt is finally solved, I was looking into getting some "fun" pedals. I already have a filter (might get another, we'll see) and a delay. What other kinds of effects would you recommend, and for what sounds? I'm thinking MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe, but I just don't know about chorus. Suggestions?

Chorus or Phaser

What didn't you like about it?
I couldn't tell you. I remember I put it next to my bubble font and thought the exh sounded better. Way better. Wasn't till I got my GS that I really stopped using my BFBM. I own like the #6 GS and almost bought the prototype before he put it into production. So ive had it for a while.

Edit : since 2010, most other muffs fell to the wayside and I just gigged the "vintage" BM

What he said.
My only question is this - do I get the MXR Bass Envelope Filter before or after I start trying out chorus pedals? I really like my SA BEF, but it just takes up too much room. And only setting I use is the MXR BEF emulation, so I feel I should just get the real thing and take up 1/3 the space.

Also, chorus suggestions? I'm thinking MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe, since it could also do flanger in a pinch. It also really keeps lows, which is important to me. Others, preferably somewhat affordable?

MXR bass chorus deluxe should work well. I've used Boss choruses in the past and go with the the chorus setting on my Bass Whammy for live use.
