Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Want to put rounds on my 74p and don't really want to use daddario or EB. Leaning toward Dunlop if they don't have 105 in nickel lo riders
I got the 5-string version of this:

After being through pretty much every major brand of strings over the last 4 years, I've settled on these. They ARE stable as hell, can take repeated drop and re-tunings, aren't too bright when new and deaden down to that AWESOME well-used roundwound tone - almost getting into flats territory, but still very articulate while retaining LONG sustain times.
Seriously happy with those strings. I was using power slinkies, and while I liked them - as soon as the new-string-zing was going away they'd just go completely bad, totally unusable. Don't know why, but other people have mentioned having the same issue. DR Drop tunes are killer.

Well a job I put in for via someone I know I mentioned a while back, got a email about a discussion by phone tomorrow.
Also sold some pedals and junk cymbals for $100 and got a fender musicmaster bass combo amp for $120. Was sold via a tech for his friend, so totally cleaned and new tubes with extras. Very cool overdrive

Kind of figured was something along that line.
I find many interviews with musicians seem kind of sour anyways. Not always the case, but I've enough rude, disinterested or just off people. A friend once showed me a band that purposely acted like idiots in interviews and that made me assume a lot of bands do that. Always thought that was weird, if your doing interviews you clearly care and your getting publicity, so why go vague and act like you don't.
Practice tonight went great! I used less distortion than I've ever used since going on my fuzz quest. It sounded amazing in the mix, and I have mixed feelings about that. Guess I should re-evaluate my bass gear! Anyway, I ended up using the JohnK Gamma Bass into the Rails Pedal, both set fairly tame. Destroyed the mix! Plenty of lows, just enough highs/mids to cut, and I was nice and articulate. We had the opposite problem from last week - this week, the guitarist needed to turn up. He's still learning the ins/outs of his new head, and the dirty channel he prefers on it sounds great, but gets lost in the mix when at unity gain. We'll fix that next week, and my bass was so out front this week I'm thinking it won't be a problem at all!

Also SubRosa and Cult of Luna were fantabulous as expected, last (tuesday) night. Minsk was pretty cool, too. I wish SubRosa could have had a longer set, though.

That job you mentioned local to you? Looks like most probably I'll be stuck in OK for a few more years, but I've had 2 recent interviews and one next week in various parts of the state and really think at least one will result in a job offer. All involve considerably more $ and more important, will get me away from my schizo bipolar menopausal micromanaging hag of a boss.
@Corey Y -sweeeeet dude. Bad for my T-Bird GAS though...now I can't get one off my mind.
@mpdd -stellar photos as usual. Y'oughtta come out here and shoot some bison and the flora and scenery out in Black Mesa, out in the panhandle. Bison are badass.
@Sartori -neighbor situation any better? Any gig news is good news. I relive my gigging days vicariously through you young bucks.
Try to be around more...boss has me in work overload but on the fun side, have 20 or so tracks in the can for the recording project I'm in on, another dozen at least near complete, vinyl test press #1 is in and sounds damn good (for the sloppy no-fi junk we're doing) and we've decided what the first 7" is gonna be...also hope to have a cassette release ready before Halloween consisting of all horror-themed tunes. Bandcamp link soon to come.
Main purpose of this project is little stabs at happiness and having fun for 5 goddamm minutes whenever we get the chance.

SS Lo-Riders on my P basses and my 1/2 step down tuned Ric.
Hi-Beams on my Js and C# tuned Ric. I used to use nickel lo-riders on the Js when i was using the ampeg 810. with the 215s the nickel mids are just too much.
Pulled my bass-modded DS-1 off the shelf last night and jammed it for about half an hour using the T40. Lots of sounds. It's always fun to "rediscover" something that's sat unused for a while.

The job is kind of weird, I'd most likely remain where I am. Where I'd work is a mystery. post phone interview, I have to take exams, and case study interviews. Then once hired it's two years of training, where I could be anywhere from my home to another country during the week, doing any number of things in a number of fields.
It's consulting so I have to be experienced in many situations. The concept seems cool, and it pays 5-7 times what I make now.

I've been responsible for booking our practice space for the last few months and, frankly, I'me beginning to get fed up with it. This month I had to change our practice schedule like 3 times already because the guys change their plans constantly and we haven't had a single practice yet. Good thing, we cancelled only one since May. We're meeting for a long one this Sunday, so I have high hopes of getting shvtload done - we've got two tracks nearly finished and hopefully we'll get them done then.
