Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I like this the look of the traditional headstock shape option you can get.

The mix and match specs thing that Carvin does is one of the reasons I really like them. They always show off the crazy coffee table stuff, because it's flashy, but you can piece together so much cool funky vintage vibe stuff too. Plus, stainless steel frets, which I love.

Yeah I always dug Carvin stuff. I had no idea they made Fender spec stuff though. Around $200 for an unfinished neck that I can tru-oil with that 2 on a side headstock and an engraved truss rod cover. I think that might be the winner for my double p body I just got. Going all black hardware this time too.

I might pick up my bass tonight.
Bummer situation: I have a buddy who is a solid drummer, a long-time friend of the 2 guitarists and the singer in my basement band, and simply won't play drums anymore. If he would, it would be easy to get a Friday night jam together to play music. He just won't do it. I've trid to convince him, one of the guitarists has tried, to no avail. so, I got no one to jam with.

It's here, time to setup my stereo board. It slimmed down a bit for now.

Oh and missing the blue voodoo head and pignose head conversion, but here's my wall-o-sound.

so want that or something similar, do they have a build a bass virtual thing?

i need a quick schooling on vintage ampeg v4b.

do they all have reverb? any particular year(s) to avoid?

i've been offered a trade for my TH500 +$200 for one.

I didn't think V4Bs had reverb, only V4s

is the v4 ok with bass? should i hold out for a v4b?

V4s sound killer with bass. I had a buddy who had one and there was no shortage low end at all. And the distortion was pretty sick.

I think the V4B I have is a silver knob era. I've had no issues with it, but I wouldn't think my experience is that valuable as I've only had it for a few months.

Doesn't look in the best of shape. They spray painted the grill cloth. That's definitely a V4 and not a B. Has the rockers for the input gain for both the input channels. New caps are a plus. Those usually go for around $700 in the states and I don't know the currency exchange. I can say they are the best dirt amp when pushed I have ever heard for bass. But I guess you have to ask yourself if 100 "clean" watts is enough for you. It's pushes like 135 when cranked.

Just got back from band practice. One guitar player got an EHX C9, the other got a Volt Thrower.

Dimed the master and OD on the 2PRO and used gain as volume: It was like seeing god, if there was such a thing.

I can see why people prefer the non master volume SVTs. Think I'll be running it that way from now on.

Got a new song charted out and tightened up. Its going to be one of three short, tight songs that will complete our set. Good progress.

I need to get some kind of audio book thing going on. After 8 hours on the computer and with my migraines actually reading a book is brutal. But I so miss reading.

Odd because I am so audio-oriented, but I discovered years back I can't do audio books. My mind just wanders...suddenly someone's been murdered or having a baby or something and I'm all "Who the feck even ARE these people?"

I watched the original The Night Stalker tv movie from 1972 last night. It's so hard to find anywhere legitimate, had to look it up on Youtube. It reminded me how 70's TV horror movies were pretty much up to the standard of 70's horror films, just no cursing or nudity. So now I'm trying to hunt down Trilogy Of Terror and When Michael Calls.

I love Night Stalker. Grew up on the show...few years back I bought the whole series as well as the DVD that had the two made-for-tv movies which is now outta print. Gone now.

I just watched Trilogy of Terror a few weeks back. It's a fun one.

Well men, been in hospital since Monday. Leg and foot pain got so bad I literally couldn't walk. Turns out I have infection in the bones. It's pretty bad...multiple kinds of bacteria including gangrene, staph and some more exotic breeds.

Been hooked up to IV antibiotics for days, bored off my azz. Released tomorrow they say. They wanted to do surgery and send me home with a picc line of liquid antibiotics but trouble is I am transitioning jobs, starting new one Monday, and my new health insurance won't kick in for a month, so no medical care in October.

Gonna send me home with a 6-week supply of oral antibiotics, pain meds and a wheelchair. When I have insurance again, they'll re-assess my condition and may then do a picc line and/or surgery...some bone removal.

Will be mostly in a wheelchair the next several weeks...not sure how long I will have the use of my legs. Or much of my actual legs for that matter. But got my fingers crossed.

I've read until my eyes hurt...couple of excellent non-fiction books: In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick and The Lost City of Z. Two amazing real life adventures.

Today I watched eight--EIGHT--Friday the 13th movies, and not because I wanted to.

Did you know Jason went to Manhattan? Fascinating stuff. Apparently slaughtering morally loose teens in rural lakeside settings couldn't fully placate his supernatural bloodlust.
