Southwest Terror Fest
Tucson, AZ
day 3 (Saturday night)
The University of AZ school of Planetary Science sponsored an art exhibit "The Art of Plantery Science" Lots of things in various media, photographs, oil paintings, sculpture. Work by scientists, work by artists, work by students, all kinds of stuff, it was far out and a pleasant way to spend a few mid-afternoon hours.
Between grubbin, beerin, socializing, and watching the Cubs lose to the Mets, I missed 1sr band Languish. Got in for

Goya ^, local stoner doom heros. They put on a typically awesome set. I couldn't hear the vocals much, which is too bad because Jeff is a really good singer. Bass rig (couple of SS Sunns) sounded huge up front, I had to walk to the right to hear any guitar.

Cult Leader^
I knew next to nothing about them. Doom-heavy hardcore grind, fast stuff, tempo changes , screamy harsh vox, lots of rrrrrrRRRAAGE. Tones were thick and nice. I guess they are largely ex-Gaza and from SLC, which explains the Hex Cabs, nobody wants to pay to ship those!! Anybody know anything about that dual P bass? Whole bass rig seemed to run off lil' Terror Bass head. Guitar was some kinda sparkly custom Prince thing.

Brothers of the Sonic Cloth^
Tad's still got it. Damn this sh!t was heavy. Not much fffing around here, just supervolcano scale sonic devastation. Impressive to say the least.
Then the crew makes last minute adjustments..

They were just as great as I could have hoped, my 1st time seeing them. Al appeared to be rocking 4 SVTs of various vintage plus a Marshall half stack. Beyond huge. Pike sounded absolutely glorious. I had to periodically remove my earplugs to stare straight into the sun and it was really hard to comprehend.
All in all a terrific time with great friends that I think I will mostly remember for a long time.
Acid King headlined Sunday night back at Club Congress, but I had to return to Tempe in the morning to re-immerse in the real world.
