Yeah I have tried the BEAD fours but never sticks. I think I would be more comfortable having the EADG still at hand and the extra low B above. Is it a devil to match up qith guitarists tuned down though? Since you are playing on different frets. Ah why I am worried about that, been a couple years since I jammed with anyone anyway lol

I use a BEAD 4 string and towards the end of Warp Rig (though I didn't know it was near the end) I was considering switching to a 5 string. We were starting to get more psychedelic influence, more jams in the middle of songs and I would do some extended basslines and run out of room to go up. I've never been able to bond with 5 strings in the past, but I was never writing or playing anything that specifically called for it either. It was always either standard tuning stuff and going an octave down on some parts sounded weird in context or it was low tuned lunk head riffs and going really high didn't fit either.

It's come up a couple of times, in the current band I had to keep telling the guitar players to stop watching my hands (They were in C). I just transposed everything to go along with them. I couldn't really hit the open strings at the same time as them, but it worked. Last week they decided on their own to tune down to B so we're all in the same place, so that's working out.

I've had 5'ers off and on since I was a teenager (second decent bass was a 5-string washburn) so I'm used to the extra string.

I had a 6 string Spector, and a few fives that came and went, didn't find them uncomfortable, I got long skinny fingers though. The one I liked the best was a Peavey Foundation 5 string, USA model, but it didn't have super ferrites. Passive sweet sounding pickups and a tight feeling B string. One of the tuning pegs got damaged in shipping and I returned it. I need to find another one.

Ugh I found out about that fake SS svt in such a bad way. I saw one on Clist for $200 and thought it was a real SVT. The ad said feck her Ex come get it. I called she said everything was cool. I'm at a family BBQ now rushing around gathering cash and leaving. leave and decide before I get too far to call about the glass in the back.

i can never hear or feel a difference with a compressor in a band setting. so i haven't really used on live.

having said that the Keeley Compressor Pro has all the features I would want in a comp. i may eventually grab one for fun to try.

Iv'e tried the Rothwell, Mad Professor, Diamond (not the bass comp) and the Empress. the Empress was probably my favorite. the Mad Professor was cool for a squishy effect. the Rothwell was the most transparent.

I've got the CS-2 and the compression portion of the Sheehan OD. I've used both successfully with MDT where I'm tuned mostly E stnd and some drop D, need to give them a try with new band and tunings in the basement.

The Behringer synth is on my Heavycraft pedalboard which goes: bass > VT > synth > MF > BBE > Tuner > Amp. The VT overdrives the synth pretty well, fuzz sounds better after the filtering than before. Fuzz before synth turns it into a mess.

MOOG 12 Step Phaser. Best phaser I have ever used and retains its resale value.
Compression I like the Keeely 4 knob.
MOOG MURF is a lot of fun and creates some spectacular soundscape
Love Pedal MEATBALLS. This is just an insane and fun pedal. if you can find one that is.

If you are using tubes/dirt then you have a lot of compression. If you are still having balance issues in your signal they can be useful in addition to what you already have.

Specifically, I find that I'm getting a meatier signal when the lowest string is downtuned relative to the other strings. The notes re: tubes/dirt are definitely accurate b/c I notice it most when "clean." I just need to try out a comp or two with clean tone and see what I think. It's all tinkering/knob twiddling at this point. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the toanz.

Jury is still out, opening thoughts were not positive. I didn't know that it didn't really start to distort till the boost function is engaged. It does slightly at certain settings and with certain basses without the boost on. It a big learning curve so far. I snapped this pick after I dialed it in to go toe to toe with the FEA and then we didn't end up jamming. Practice was canceled yesterday and I can't make a jam till next week to really see what it sounds like. Tons of low end though! I turned it on without looking at the knobs when I built the board and almost fried the 115 I was using.

Been on a mellow music kick at work, just trying to concentrate and get poopie done.

This has prompted me to impulse buy the entire Acetone discography on CD from ebay, 17 bucks all in, shipping included. Squanch you might want to do the same, there's some stupid deals on ebay. For some reason their cds are going for ridiculous amounts of Amazon.
