Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

How are flats on guitar? A buddy of mine has been wondering for a while, as have I.

They are pretty great. I find you get the benefits of less noise, and never going dead, but there is less of an obvious difference in terms of brilliance lost compared to bass flats vs rounds.

Just saw an acoustic in town for cheap, can't find any info on it but it's an old harmony and the fretboard appears to have a single cool pickup built into it at the 14th fret. Totally going to see it Monday and if it's good, it's getting bought and flatted too. That's another benefit on acoustic is they work with piezo or magnet pickups.

Really? So you still get the high end? Might have to try that out. That was mine and my buddy's concern. I'll let him know. Thanks!

I was playing in standard on an esquire with the bridge pickup straight to jack into a treble boosted classic 30 so ymmv.

Another time I had a humbucker equipped guitar into an oc-3 with the dirt on into the classic 30 and that was a very good too.

SG will be getting flats too. Overhauling it will be later on, but I've shopped and studied.

3x gold GFS mean 90's, gold screws, knobs and pickup rings. All black plastic replaced with white and a replacement pickguard.

Wiring it to be 1. Neck pickup only 2. Middle and Bridge 3. middle and bridge series/out of phase. 1 meg volume pots for neck and bridge pickup, they also get 5 position rotary switches instead of tone knobs, going from bassy cap down to bypassed to jack. The middle is always direct to jack and tied to the bridge.

All together $90 guitar and hardcase with around $225 in upgrades and fixes.

I drove to the nearest guitar center today, to try to find a decent squier jazzmaster, jag or strat and they didn't have squat. A couple lowest end strats, no jags or jm of any brand. I was there all of 5 minutes, very disappointing.

We actually had trick r treaters for the first time in a few years. The little guy has a dragon costume on and is helping me hand out candy.

I saw a jag at the new GC in town the other day, only got a chance to do the *caress the neck from the wall hanger as you walk by*. Seemed on point as much as my bass vi, and being much smaller, I'd think a large gauge string set would solve any potential issues.

By the way my new GC is like 1/3 the size of the others and they aren't pushy sales people, instead they seem to focus more on letting you know about the fact they can have anything delivered to the store for free. I know they were doing bad, I guess I could see dropping the rent cost and stocking costs and focusing on their logistics.

In keeping with the recent GC theme, I just ordered some old DOD pedals online. Hour later, one is out of stock (i.e. sold). Hate when they don't update listings! Now I gotta call and see how much the other pedal (the one I didn't want as much) will be since they combined shipping etc. If I have to pay $15 shipping, I'm not buying that $20 pedal!

Update: They still have the pedal, it's just weird in their inventory after being sold and returned. I'm getting both of them!
