Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I seem to remember this smell conversation. I'm kinda leaning toward these speakers as the open sound reminds me of the JBL. I hear you on the handle placement, good point about balance lifting. Your dimensions are really close to what I had in mind. Possibly a smidgen shorter but the depth is spot on. I could use the JBL but due to their eight I'm going to split these to some Caberet clones.

But first I have a flipping Subaru motor to rebuild. Machine shop just pinged me about my heads being ready. After a year on this project with many months of stall and three different machine shops in the mix it's been an adventure. Hope by close to the first of the year have the motor ready for install.

Ooooh! Details on the motor. I've haven't done any full motor builds on it, but I have a MKV GTI with APR Stage II tune, and boltons. It's not going to play with a built STI by any means, but should be around 300ft/lbs of torque and approx 280-290hp right now.

Scanned through John's post to the point he was selling one... When you say move the handles down. Would you say center them on the side would be a good target?

Johns clips were selling me on the Faital then in the end he keeps the 3015... Funny shisnit.

One of these days I'll build one. Prefer to have some castors on it no matter the weight and rails on the back. Thanks for the plans.

I see why John flip-flopped on the drivers. They're both crazy good. The 3015 has a real nice low mid bump and a teeny bit of grind, which is pretty trad rock and roll stuff. I still think anyone could go with either speaker and be just as happy

Some of you guys might dig this: Satyrnine Ouroboros Parablend. Essentially a loop pedal, that can blend the loop with the dry signal. I use it with a fuzz in the loop to retain big clear low end, which being able to dial in plenty of gain. All the way left is full wet, all the way right is full dry. I used Burr-Brown OPA2134's, jfets, WIMA caps, metal film resistors, and nice Oshpark boards.

Is it just me or is Tom Waits Leatherface's celebrity twin?

I miss the old 84 GTI. It was geared for 55 at 3K so was not all that happy bombing down the freeway at 80mph but great balanced car.
The subaru is an Outback XT. So Legacy GT chassis with a bit of a lift. Goal is a solid runner. Using forged Pistons with same rods and crank after balancing/polishing. I could hit 300 after a down pipe with the 16G turbo but I'd need to do an injector and fule pump upgrade first. Right now is get it back to running then I'll decide what to do next after it's smoged again. May build another motor to handle 18lb of boost to be the fun motor. But the next upgrades will probably be going into rebuilding the 5EAT.

Very cool! I'd love to do a full motor build someday, but the GTI is my only car, so can't afford to have it down for long periods of time. Always wanted to get an S2000 and turbo it. Love the aesthetics and platform, (and doesn't break the bank) just needs more power imo.

My GTI is a weirdo. It's a 2009.5, so has the MKV body, but MKVI TSI motor, which is way better than the FSI. FSI fuel pump/injectors are only good for about 250hp, whereas the TSI's is good up to 350-400ish. They also fixed the horrible cam follower issues, PCV, and other annoying FSI issues. So all I needed for APR's Stage 2 kit was intake and downpipe. I also have motormounts. Run the 93 Octane tune exclusively. Love it.

You know sometimes I GAS for a Dually, would probably be a major sonic upgrade over the traynor/yorkville YBX1510 i got for dirt cheap. But then I did the measurements. Four extra inches... I'd have to fold the Subaru's back seat down to get it in the same way and fit all the other cabs... which means taking the kid seats out.. which means 10 extra minutes of cursing every time I'm trying to get to the gig on time, and 20 extra minutes of cursing the next morning I have to haul the kids to school when I remember belatedly that I got to put the seats back in before leaving... and 20 extra minutes of cursing that evening after getting home and cleaning up whatever devastation the kids wreaked while running wild unsupervised while I was reinstalling their seats... which all means no Dually.

Got a Dodge Caliber for gear-hauling purposes, turns out I can fit just in much in the wife's hyundai hatch-back. So she's driving the safer, more reliable caliber, I'm driving the hyundai.

I think Hyundai is employing some kind of Dr. Who Tardis technology, I really can't believe how much crap I can fit in that little car. Amazing.
