Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Death to tweeters. This **** ain't gospel, there is nothing about doom that should "sparkle".

I turn them off, but my mainstays are an Ampeg 810 and ported tweeter less 215s.

Speaking of, the replacement speaker for my dually should be landing any day now. Just in time for my band to have just finished our last shows of the year and focus on writing/recording! Heeeeyaaaahhh
lol, yeah kinda what I figured.

I saw the photo of your setup and it looked ideal

Thanks, it is on its way. Not sure if you saw my practice tower or pics from my last show, both are sweet though. I'm very grateful to have stumbled on some choice gear in the past year or two.

2016 will see the addition of another dually, and probably another power amp. I love the tube amps but don't love the weight and am always nervous about something happening to them. I'm growing more and more confident that the ideal choice for me is the beta into a power amp into a dually stack. I love the beta EQ and having built in stereo capabilities or clean blend is pretty awesome. I'm thinking carvin for the amp. I'd like to give Crest another crack, but that debacle really left a sour taste in my mouth.

Hmm, I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone uses twisted/stranded wire for amplifiers anymore. It's been solid wire as long as I've been dabbling in electronics. It's all we used in the electronics classes that I took.

This guy has an ulterior (maybe not even ulterior, direct?) motive, which is bilking ignorant musicians out of their money.

"That's right Mr. Blues Lawyer, I use only kmart brand vintage recycled stranded copper lamp cord for all of my point-to-point connections. Also NO SOLDER because solder attenuates high end. You want people to hear your bitchin' solos right? THEN NO SOLDER. Connections are made with chewing gum pulled from age-appropriate packs of baseball cards."

Maybe I'm in the wrong business.

LOL

His only sales pitch that hooked me was lifetime repairs and mods. Because you spent a ton on his gear and your taste might change. if he's not just saying that, it's a cool policy.

So what does everybody think about Once Upon A Time in Shaolin?
An album sold only once for millions of dollars that "cannot be released publicly for 88 years".

Sounds awesome to me, the thought of an album as fine art, which you actually own the rights to. Still I'd love to hear it.

Never knew about that happening. I'll give them some benefit of the doubt as they appear to do more than cash grab rap.

Cynical me thinks though this is just a cash grab. It's not about the art it's about exclusivity. The concept falls apart if you're not famous. Still being a cynic I'd assume it's not their best work, otherwise they'd do a wide release and make even more money.

You don't put Nevermind on that record, you put some outtakes from Sliver on it.

Extra extra cynical me hopes it's just an endless loop of the band laughing.

Do you guys with fearfuls/any cab use the tweeter much for doom?

The greenboy cabs take a lot more consideration as the play between the speaker, mid driver and tweeter is Very hi-fi.

Not at all similar to most bass cabs "shrill noise switch"

That said I have a dually and bassic. If my car could have held it, I'd have a 15/6 and sub. Now the 12" based cabs are out and if the 12 + 12 sub would have been available and fit, I probably would have gone that route. I assume it could hold just as well as the dually or maybe better.

Happy thanksgiving day everybody 3.5 beers + some nice single malt scotch in, dinner up soon, at the sis in laws place, 0.5 miles from home, not hosting, not traveling, best of all worlds, desert hike with the kids this morning, letting em veg out with the latest How To Train Your Dragon Netflix exclusive series until dinner, life is good, be safe everybody

Oof, stuffed. Back home from the cousin's house. Nice that they live five minutes away. Blasting The Machine and doing a little tidying up. My poor wife has been at work since 7:00 am, with no end in sight.

Booze free thanksgiving for me, calm with kava.

Kalm with Kava is having a black Friday sale tomorrow. And the Aluball is also discounted through Cyber Monday.

Daaaanng. Nice! Challenger? Can't quite tell for sure. Not well versed in Dodge. That's not the crazy 6.2 or whatever is it?

Hellcat baby!

Julian, got a nice metal film cap yesterday, should be able do the mod in the next day or two
.

Sexy!

how come now that I have time to follow this thread it is dead as F?

Holidays are a time suck.... Wednesday night I carved 45 turkeys and 30 hams.

Hey guys I just bought a svt 2 pro off here and I don't know a whole lot about bass cabs.

Would this cab go well with the svt and is it a good price? [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I would avoid that cab. Look at the peavey BW 1505-8DT's for that 215. The ones with 5mm of xmax.

Do you guys with fearfuls/any cab use the tweeter much for doom?

I have tweeters in all my greenboy cabs, and I generally leave them on. The tweeters and the implementation greenboy uses are worlds apart from commercial tweeters.

Those of you with fast cars/bikes. How do you take advantage of that?

I've never seen the appeal other than style appreciation because at least anywhere I've lived the intestate is never very clear and cops abound. Unless you just expect to take defensive driving annually?

Other option would be country roads, but even they aren't fabulous stretches. That's not including any pot holes, various animals or farm equipment going 1/4 speeds on them.

Track days are fun. Lots of good 1/4 surface roads in MI. It also helps to have friends in the PD and know when shift changes happen. ;)

Also remember that police in states other than Texas will likely just give you a ticket, rather than detain you, strip your car to the frame looking for contraband and generally try to ruin your life.

If you have money for a nice sports car, then the occasional speeding ticket isn't a huge deal.

And I have not gotten a speeding ticket driving a sports car. I have gotten one driving a mini van loaded with band gear for coasting down a hill at 5 over and not riding my breaks.
