Does anyone else just stop reading threads when the op mentions "playing at church?"

I have such a hard time relating. I was reading a NCD thread about the new genzler bass array cab and just lost interest. I think I'm weird but using a bass cab in that situation is nothing i want to do or hear. I don't and won't have any useful insight.

I guess what I'm saying is there is nothing i can learn about that cab when they talk about using it as such. So my brain turns off.

Anybody else feel like this? Maybe not in the same scenario but like: you are reading about some new bass you're interested in but they play through some amp or effect you can't imagine using and now you don't care?

Nope. Hate it. Loving the warm(er) weather. Related story:
Last night after dinner I was dropping some friends off at the pool. There's a window in the bathroom that we've covered with a faux stained glass cling so people can't see in. I was sitting there doing my business, dark outside, when there's a very bright flash of light. For a second I thought someone was outside trying to take a photo of me taking a dump. "Joke's on them" I thought, "No one wants to see that." Then a few seconds later I heard the thunder. We had a goddamned thunderstorm last night. In December.

Yeah, I can relate. "This cab performs great at moderate-to-low volumes, completely clean, hi-fi, scooped, slap/pop, modern-jesus, PRAISE HIM! worship music." None of that is helpful to me.

Semi-related story: I did play drums in a worship band for about a week when I was in high school. I was a janitor at a large church, working nights. I used to sneak off and play their drums when I thought no one was around. The organist heard me and asked if I wanted to play in the worship band wednesday nights. Not being christian I declined, but then they said I could practice on the clock, and perform on the clock. Since I had to be there anyway I figured what the hell and said yes. Got through my first service, the band leader told me some of the old ladies were complaining about the volume of the drums (I was playing as quietly as I possibly could) and asked if I could play without cymbals. I believe my exact words were: "I'm out, got a lot of toilets to scrub."

Still can't relate to the P&W crowd. It just seems like so much less fun than any other gig. poopie, being in a cover band would be more fun than playing at shaging church.

I'm finding that most statements about gear on Talkbass aren't accurate and for some reason people simply repeat opinions they've read in other posts and have no real experience with said gear.
This is exacerbated by the fact that the most outspoken talkbass members have nothing in common with me musically. I don't give two ***** about your jazz fusion trio or U2 coverband.

/end rant.

No new gear for me, thinking about grabbing a pedal but nothing in my price range is interesting me right now so I'll wait. Next purchase will probably be a new rolling case for the 2-PRO. Least exciting gear purchase ever, but it'll probably save me a herniated disc or broken ankle, so that's cool I guess.

Yeah, I worry about trying to carry that shager on ice. My current chipboard rack only has 1 strap handle and weighs 20 lbs empty. So that puts amp + case right over 100lbs. I can carry it up high, one hand on the handle and one on a corner and it's fine, but if I slip and fall like that I'm going to seriously injure myself. The amp would probably laugh it off, but I really don't want to break an arm or leg. Rolling SKB rack seems like the way to go.

Merry Jesusmass heathens. I got a chance to finish up a pedal. It's a BYOC 250+ kit (can be either mxr distortion+ or DOD 250) but I made it a hybrid between a mxr dist+ and my old favorite 90's Ibanez CM5 Classic Metal (which was really a hotrodded dist+ with a lame tone section, buffers, jfet switching etc) . I added switches to select germanium, silicon or LED diodes (independent for each diode, so you could do Ge for the positive wave, LED for the negative wave or whatever for whatever asymmetrical combination). Also added a bass boost switch.

Sounds beastalicious on guitar with LEDs and gain maxed out. Nice thick middy overdrive for bass with gain backed off. Great Success! Now I sit on my butt while womenfolk assemble tamale dinner.

Not to overlook possible need for load dampening. Bouncing one of those racks around puts a hurting on heavy gear. For example the SM900 has blown most all of the bottom screws and the chassis is dickerd. Mostly from the transformer not having any support. Head still works but there is no way it's going out and be a trusted again till fixed. Even then they are on borrowed time. Heat is a killer even if it's not enclosed.

I think certain cover band situations could actually be fun, whereas I'm such a devout nonbeliever that if I do anything the least bit churchy I burst into flames.

A U2 cover band would NOT fall into the fun category.

Also, detest fusion. Feh. The worst aspects of jazz AND rock combined.
