Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

So it appears to be raining 215s in the St. Louis area.

A week and a half ago I grabbed a free Sunn 215s cab.

Last night @Ender_rpm and I took a short trip to score two peavey 215s for $100 a piece.

Today I check FB and see a local ad for a Peavey 215 bass cab for a 30 pack of Budweiser. My reply came in first so another 215 will join the family. That will put me at four 215s and I still plan on getting another dually for my live rig. The peaveys will likely live at the rehearsal space.

All hail 15" speakers and 8x15 stacks.

I SO hate you right now :D

Also: I figured I need a Boss LS-2. With the amount of pedal combinations I make, pedalboard tap dancing is starting to border on ridiculous.

Wall-O-15's, The century heads got a few bugs, but plays and sounds pretty good. Someone drilled some dime size holes in the back of the chassis and chicken wired it and added a fan inside I think?

Only issue is crazzzzy feedback when I tweak the mids, sounds like a phaser self oscillating. The mid freq knob is the worse culprit, but mid knob freaks out if touched certain ways.

For now, I think I'll use it as the dirty bridge pickup side and the rockmaster as the "clean" neck unless that changes... But the DOD 250 clone with dirt maxed into it with its own dirt maxed was pretty raunchy.

Those centurys are dope!!! Dem para mids make it capable of a lot of sounds. One of those are on my wanted list.

And a thought for @CL400Peavey @dukeorock and any other speaker gurus.

To my knowledge these peavey 215s are essentially two isolated and identical 115s. Could I load one of these cabs up with 3015LFs and use a crossover to run a 215 sub cab under another single or pair of full range 215s?

Would need to know some specifics about volume and porting, but my gut tells me no. Those LF woofers need a LOT of port.

You might have modification room to work with if you're motivated.
The other detail of a crossover for sub use? You'll need an active crossover for that for that use. A passive crossover won't work with your other cabinets.

Hmmm modification, hmmm yes...

Why would I need an active crossover? My preamp has two outputs. Couldn't I put a passive crossover in between one of the outputs and one channel of the power amp? Then run the other output to side A of the power for full range usage.

That might do it. You rocking the Mostly Harmless right?
Now I remember.
Maybe with opposing EQs you'll get what you want.
What poweramp are you using?

You don't need anything. Your Crest has crossover built in. You switch one channel to subwoofer and the other to high-pass. Done.
I think switching the input to "parallel" will allow you to use only one input for both channels.
Hell I'd try it now with the dually as the sub and another cab highpassed.
Won't be the same as with LFs in a cabinet but it's enough to play with. Just don't slam that cabinet like that probably won't take a ton of power used as such.

Congrats on the Wall O' Deafness. I can't wait to hear how this works in practice.

I'm running a 215 Big Bertha cab and for my silly antics, this is enough, but only because I hate dragging the 115lb cow with me up and down the steps at our rehearsal spot.

If I had my druthers, I'd run two 215s and a 412. I think that would be a nice blend. About ten years ago, I played a gig where I brought:

Two amp heads
412 cab
210 cab
115 cab

The sound guy asked me if I was trying to build a Noah's ark of cabs. Of course, at the end of the show he admitted it actually sounded pretty good.

So is my peavey 610. HAH!!!

Finally taking da MACE to a tech, it did need new tubes but theres still a brackground sputtery fizzle to it. Gonna get it recapped and tell the guy i use it for bass so if theres any quick or cheapish mods he can do to make it better for low end to do so.

Still looking for the right amp tech for the VTA400, Bear unfortunately doesnt want to mess with it, TAKE MY MONEY DAMMIT. I want this thing pretty much completely rewired, so when I get it back its better than new. I want this thing to be my end all be all amp. Basically a custom Peavey. I just dont want it to take more than 3 months. Price really isnt an issue.

Man cant wait to run DA MACE and VTA400 together for a full TUBEHenge.
