Dropped the VTA400 off at the tech before heading to the Wisco for Cosmic Relic, Heavycraft and ThorrAxe show. Cosmic Relic rocked, picture far off low rumbling riffs from space. Heavycraft riffed HARD and grooved BIG. Thorr Axe brough the place down as always. Fugg the PoPo and Mister "I moved next to a venue and dont like loud".


Good night overall, but bad news this morning...tech says the power tranny is bad, and he still has the check the OT. Sucks but im basically getting that amp for free in the trade deal. And if im dumping that much into it now I might as well go all out and overbuild the fvcker. told him to go wild and make it beast and let me know about the bill.

Stock TS cuts way too much low end. There's a bass version with 2 band eq and blend, haven't used it.

First show on the books, we killed it, crowd dug it, lots of compliments, noise complaints from the neighbors. Heavycraft absolutely destroyed, really damn impressive.

Went to bed around 2:30 but was too amped up to sleep, got up at 8:00 and had breakfast, currently riding the couch.

Noise complaints from neighbors? That means you're doing it right.

Wow. Our guitarist just said that he'd like us to have additional practice this week just because he's got some free time. Now that doesn't happen often, it's usually the other way around.

Re: TS, I had a borrowed one on my board a long time ago and would use it to add grind for a few bass break/solo spots. Cut way too much low end for regular use, though.

'72 former-rental SVT started humming again couple weeks ago, so I brought the dolly to the studio on Friday hauled it off to the amp repair doctor... This happens too often. After spending a day drooling at high-dollar tube amps online I ended up ordering a solid-state backup amp to have ready for the next time it happens. (Orange OB1-300)

Meanwhile I brought some guitar gear into the studio and tried bi-amping again at practice. Using the crossover in an svt 4-pro, I sent the lows back into the 4-pro's power section (bridged) and then into a 4-ohm Acme low-B4. I ran the highs out into a Marshall Silver Jubilee (JCM 800) 50w head into the old ampeg 8x10. I spent about 40 minutes before the other guys showed up messing around trying to get a decent tone, mainly playing with the crossover point, balance, and the knobs on the Marshall. When we finally got practice going I was stoked that the highs meshed smoothly together with the guitar player's sound (compared to the typical game I have to play of trying to hear myself without being too loud). The recorded mix below is not exactly what it sounded like live, but since I don't have pics, this is all I have to prove it happened.

Does anyone have any experience with a TS on bass? I've heard they can cut low end and are mid heavy. Sounds kind of similar to a cleanish OCD based on the description. I love running an OCD into a muff and am curious about a TS into a muff.

I've used the Reverend (Now Visual Sound produced) Drivetrain 2 for years. TS level of gain, but has a nice bass control to keep the booty going. You are welcome to try mine sometime. The VS version is hella cheap, and sounds just as good as the old Reverend produced ones. IMO.

I've tried a TS808, TS9, and the aforementioned bass version.

The 808 and 9 are beautiful on the mids, very much the "sound in your head" of distorted bass tone that cuts through the mix (with the 808 being a bit sweeter sounding than the 9). Unfortunately, they do cut a lot of lows, so not really practical unless you use one as an always on at the start or end of your chain.

The bass version sounds nothing like either of them, even with the mix 100% wet and the EQs at noon. Don't waste your time with it.

I had a TS9 on my board for a long time, just accepting the low end loss while I sought out a suitable replacement. Of the many I tried the B3K was the only thing that came close to capturing what I loved about the TS9 tone, without cutting lows. It's got a LOT more attitude to it though, like a TS from hell.
