Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Realized today that my guitar board could easily double as my bass board with the addition/substitution of my B3K for my Rivera Metal Shaman. Kinda nice to know. Also, if I reverse the positions in my fuzz and pre knobs on the Pharaoh Supreme, I get a near identical sound, but it works much better on bass. Also good to know. Been way too busy lately to just play and mess with gear. Been recording our stuff, though. Maybe I'll share some, if the other gents are cool with it.

They are all 4-2 ohms mostly. Also most solid states push harder at 4 than 8

There's a gk 400rb for $100 obo I could run on my dually or bassic.
GK is pretty good.

I would grab the 400RB.

Tube heads that only do 4 or 2 ohms? I've never seen that. I'm not sure why you couldn't still run them at 8 ohms. Those are minimums after all IIRC.
No, they're not minimums. Tube heads have to be matched in impedance. And tube bass heads that only do 4 or 2 ohms are actually pretty common. The SVT is one (though it's apparently safe to run at an 8 ohm load as well).

Recorded an album and a half of electric bass tracks today. Had my amp up louder than show volume. Weird to record two years worth of work in the space of an afternoon. The D-180 sounds so amazing cranked. Whenever the new Catapult album comes out, which will be quite a while still, most of the bass sound on it is just a cranked up D-180 through the 2000S cab. We did mic it up with four microphones, though (RE20, SM7-B, SM57, D112). So that'll be interesting. The neighbors were banging on the door as I was hammering out the end of the last song. My guitarist and I looked at each other, had the mutual realization that this particular take was going really well, and so made unspoken decision to keep going and ignore the angry neighbors.

Unfortunately, we later rehearsed in a place with, I think, shoddy power. One of the new tubes seemed to be running very hot.

Get the 400RB @askrere. I love my 400RB, it made an amp stand out of my Orange TB500. Don't have the heart to sell the TB500 though.

Selling a couple hard cases and getting it Thursday or Friday, think he'll wiggle too.

Hopefully it handles a low B well. Had the 800rb before and used it with some gk 212's but they sucked and it was farty.
