Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Mids knob is an easy add on to a muff, you just replace one resistor with a pot. Other than that, the green Russian is pretty awesome as is. Maybe a couple of capacitor tweaks for more bass so you don't have to live in the mud zone of the tone knob, but even that is optional.

It's looking like I'll be doing most of the booking for the current band, which is fine, I'm also being tasked with finding and choosing a studio to record us, which is a lot more daunting. Basically putting that off until school is done in two weeks.

I know tons of audio folks and musicians in town so it's not like I'm hurting for options, but if the end result isn't so great it's going to be me that gets the blame. Oh well.

PM me if you need a contact for quality & affordable mixing/mastering.

Any tips to make it not destroy my speakers with squelching death noises? Worried about killing my cab, especially when it closes. Got a subtle thing happening now, want it less subtle without causing damage.

Doesn't the BEF have wet and dry controls? Using a blend or low gain are the only solutions I can think of for that. The Fwonk beta has some potentially HUGE low end surges in it, and the peaks can sound like what I imagine the sound of voice coils vaporizing to be. I usually just dial in a more mild filter sound when using dirt with it.

Yeah, I've got the FX volume about 10:00,and have the Q (intensity) at 9:00. Gives a nice subtle quack, and a little more treble bite, but not lots of vowel sounds. It works for now, but would like more vowels without killing my cab.

How did having that many signals on the bass work out? We could potentially record the bass with DI, SM57, and JTS NX2 (or even throw a condensor mic on there as well). Seems extreme though, no?

Currently plan is:

Drums- Kick, snare, and overhead
Bass-DI and SM57 mic
Guitar-SM57
Singer- Condenser mic or SM58 (Maybe running two vocal tracks, one with each).
We recorded separate.

Not sure how it'll all turn out yet. You may only use one signal, or two. But more choices is better.

I ran out to the local electronics store today. I picked up some knobs for the muff and a couple cases. Paid out the wazoo, but actually probably hit pretty close to an online order once shipping was factored in. One of the cases is painted black and is trapezoid shaped. It will make a cool dual circuit pedal. I care not about conforming to "the smallest footprint" standard rectangle shapes. I want to make interesting and cool pedals.

Anyway, also stopped by the craft store and found some pretty bad ass green metal flake paint. I currently have the enclosure for the green russian sprayed and drying with a super thick first coat. The spray can is functioning in a strange way and when shot the standard way is only shooting propellant, but when shot upside down or at an extreme angle the paint flows like crazy. Needless to say, the paint job isn't pretty but I plan on sanding it down and clearcoating it anyway, so I am not to worried about it. I'm not sure if I can get the entire build done today but I am going to push for it. Minimum goal is to populate the circuit board and get the case painted and clear coated waiting to be drilled.

I also got a large green lamp in lieu of an LED. Should be pretty cool.

Attempting to apply logic to batpoopie CL weirdos is a losing game. Just take his money and back away slowly.

Yup,

Sold my roadstar bass today. Guy showed up says his direct deposit failed and wouldn't work so he only had $275. Said I can wait, he said maybe a few days... I leave and in 20 minutes he was texting to say the money magically appeared lol.

A little mock up for you dudes. Not that anyone cares, but y'all are my only friends that might give a poopie about my builds.

I got the board done despite running out of solder. I had to solder the last few caps with super thick gauge solder. Not desirable but better than burnt fingers because I decided to solder with 3/4" of solder. Nonetheless I made clean joints with the big solder. I also modified some values after referencing a few bmp dissection pages. I just need to add D3 and D4. I want LEDs but am undecided between red or yellow.

I was going to paint but I may honestly take a crack at making a waterslide decal. The paint came out so good I'm not sure I can lay waste with my wack painting skills.

We will see how my Gimp skills fair.
