The line/direct outs from your amps should work with an interface just fine - however it's not going to sound exactly like your amp in a room would. Not having the cab in chain makes quite a difference. You can try to correct that with a room ambience or cab sim plug-in after the fact or go back to microphones on cabs.

Post is EQ is good for your bass amp, though if you're recording you may want to record a separate purely clean track. That way you can blend it back in to retain the full low end that may be lost or reduced due to dirt pedals.

Thanks as always. Just so I know, would it hurt anything to try a cab sim after the DI? The one I ordered has a switch to go from speaker level to instrument level. And if it's terrible, I'd have to figure out plug ins, which I have no idea about. Not that I couldn't do it, but this seems simpler. (And expensive? Don't you have to buy plug ins for recording software?)

That's a DI and Cab Sim in one so it should get the job done. It appears to be designed for guitar, but it should help out with bass as well.

Plug-ins can be free or you can for them, whatever software you're using probably has some kind of reverb plug-in built in that can be used to add a bit of room ambience back in if you feel like you need it.

if you're using a SS head, there really isn't any point to using the speaker level DI. I would use the DI on the amp and then EQ the recorded track to taste

Well I have to say... I built a 250 clone because I felt I should have one in my arsenal and thought it would be a fun project. When I finished it, I wasn't super stoked on the pedal. The LM308 makes it a bit smoother than the stock opamp but it still sounded a bit harsh and brittle for my taste, may main issue with the modern yellow sparkle variants.

But after some time playing with it, I dig it a lot more... Especially stacked with the ODB-3. It cuts like a knife but still maintains a somewhat low gain and natural sounding break up with however much low end I want courtesy of the low boost of the ODB-3. It's quickly becoming my favorite non-ultrafuzz dirt.

That boss pedal is simply amazing and I'm not sure how or why it is so passed over. I use it like a preamp first in my chain. Gain is set super low and the blend is like 90% clean, bass boosted just a hair and the treble boosted a hair more, volume at 1 o clock. Gives a fat sounding light OD grind that stacks perfectly with my other dirt. The trebly grind cuts through everything even muffs and the low end boost really helps out with pedals that don't boost the bass as much.

I'd love to clone one. I may look in to a second so that I feel more comfortable rehousing and modding one.

That was my issue with the 250 as well. I really wanted to like it, but ended up buying and selling it twice. I actually prefer the FX Series version, the FX50B. It has a tone control which I think comes in handy to really dial it in. Of course, I'm a sucker for the DOD FX Series. I have 18 or so right now, and another on the way.

Put together a small stage lighting rig. Something we can just bring in and flop on the floor. Made out of aluminum with aluminum tread plate on the front. Fits a fog machine and the controller on board as well. This will allow us to have atleast some basic wash lighting instead of the harsh yellow lights that most venues around here have.

Thought you guys might find it interesting.

I was mortuary affairs in 2008 during my first deployment to Afghanistan and I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. I never had to fight, but I was constantly dealing with the remains of 18-22 year old soldiers that had been blown into pieces or burned alive due to HMEs and IEDs. Seeing your fellow soldiers and countrymen brutally killed in such a way that is easy to see as cowardly turned me into a budding racist pretty quickly. I hated the Islamic religion and the people in Afghanistan and I had an opinion similar to the whole "just nuke em all" mentality. But one day we were called to the hospital on base to remove a dead civilian local national (which we often did if they died in our hospital or on base) and it turned out to be a 3 year old little girl that was shot with AK-47 fire at a fairly close range. Her father followed us to the morgue as we had to get his permission to take her into our care because we were males and all that, and he didn't seem particularly bothered by his daughters violent murder imo. It wasn't until we placed her into a hand-made casket (a sgt and I stayed up all night making a wood casket out of cheap particle board we found, despite neither of us having any clue what we were doing) and draped the Afghanistan flag onto it that his emotions came out. When we began to load the casket into the back of a truck to transport her off base, he lost it and collapsed onto the casket containing his little girl. We were holding her at the time so we nearly lost it, but were able to set her down as he gripped the flag and the casket and wailed louder than any wailing I would ever seen. I don't know if you've ever seen a grown man truly cry as if he'd just lost everything, but it's surprising how much it affects you. I realized in that moment how wrong I was about everything. Felt like a real moron.

Really like the mix. Often times I feel like stuff like this can have really peaky highs (transients?) that make it harsh to listen to when you really turn it up on headphones. Like everything is overpowering everything else. But this is really nice, nothing overly shrill, the distortion isn't shrill, everything feels well-balanced with everything else.
