I know Idiotbox came out with a more versatile version of the Blower Box, the Landphil.

To anyone interested, that deal for the Peavey stuff fell through. Loaded all the poopie up and drove 45 minutes after speaking to the guy. When I got there everything but the Vulcan was gone, 20 minutes before I got there. The Vulcan wouldn't power on and looked like it had been dropped from a moving vehicle. It had been sitting in a garage with a questionable roof on a pallet for 6 months. I offered him $50 for it, he said $125 and I left.

Just ran that through the sims, and sadly, its not going to be appreciable volume increase. Even with a pair of those drivers, and 2000 watts dedicated to just that cab, you are only looking at 110 db or so at 20 hz. The massive amount of volume you put out above 50hz is going to eclipse that for the most part.

It is the target that is hard to hit. 20 hz makes everything challenging. When you consider that you are not putting out much energy there in the first part, there may be more economical gear choices for effect.

On an unrelated note, our business is finally moving to a new location in a better area, that isn't surrounded by drug dealers and shanty towns. We're renovating the space now and hoping to move in by the end of September. Also, there's been 2 murders on the next block in the past week. One early last week and one last night. Both times the cops just rolled down the street and found a dead body, not responding to any 911 calls or anything like that. Both shooting deaths, both right where all the drug dealers hang out in the street all day long every day.

Thanks for the concern, i realize how hard it is the push 20hz, and i dont even really plan to go much lower than normal subs do anyway, this is more a safety net. im not really looking for balls out loud at 20hz. On the contrary actually, the next level of the freqtherapy after an artistic creative exploration is it becoming a holistic mediation service using sound. My potential customers may actually care about their hearing, so I need to keep volumes reasonable while still being able to provide the vibrations needed to sonically message people. I think a cab capable of a safe 20hz would be very useful tool.

Thats the thing, it doesnt really get you in to "usefull" volume range. If you know you're realistically aiming a little higher, there are drivers that out perform these in a major way.

How bout some examples then wise guy? Hah


The guy thats building it is working with an audio engineer on the design, who has actually used this driver in his live drone rig with great results. The guys name is Matthew Avezedo and his drone project is called Retribution Body, if you would like to look any of that up. If that guy says thats what works for him, I dont care what a graph says, theyll be good.

That being said I havent actually ordered anything yet, I want to see how this first one works out before I jump down th rabbit hole and drop the cash on an amp, crossover, and cab to hit 20hz.

Ignore step three, as I didnt look at port size.

In terms of output, a single 3015LF is more sensitive, and will put out more sound than a pair of the Daytons, above 45 hz. Keep in mind that you're better off hitting the first overtone of the note as that is where all the energy is.

As with most gear, sometimes the technical descriptions are lacking a bit in veracity, but the results are still great. I find that the need to actually get a loud sub 100 Hz tone out of a cab isn't as vital as it sounding and feeling deep. Which plenty of cabs (PA and Bass) of many eras do well. Sometimes the technical claims are exaggerated or false, but they still sound GOOD. As long as you get the real world result you're looking for, it doesn't really matter if it meets some arbitrary abstract technical requirement.

This is all true, and I agree. The numbers dont lie though. Those drivers need a ton of power to get only kind of loud. $1000 for a 218 that is outperformed by a 115 seems like a hard sale though.
