yes it would need to be a live room recording.

too much close micing happening in rock. it gets tiresome to listen to. this is why I like a lot of Jazz recordings, they really know how to capture a room.

agreed, for music i think the technique would need to be used artistically to enhance the performance in spots where it makes sense to do so.

I once heard Kurt Ballou say that he admired guys like Steve Albini for making recordings that have "pure natural sound", but that his approach was more going for the ideal perception of natural sounding. Something that sounds good and feels like it exists in the real world (or a sonically idealized version of it), without all the unflattering and problematic aspects of a pure documentarian approach to audio. That really resonated with me as encapsulating something I'm always aiming for with my own recordings and mixes that I hadn't really articulated before. I don't want something to sound like you're really there, I want it to sound like how you remember it sounding or perceived it sounding at the time. Those are usually two wildly different things.

Do both! Change during intermission, or have the band members dress in different costumes.

I've read on this very forum that coordinated costumes are very important, so clearly dressing alternately as a samurai and a geisha in different sets is the epitome of bandage, although that may only apply to shi!tty dad-rock cover bands so YMMV.

Also, can I suggest you guys throw in a token ninja? I mean, you should really embrace this. It worked for Kiss, and they're like super famous dad-rock doing covers of their own hits.

Super jelly of the VT ODB amalgam you can rock.

ODB was tempting but I already have the BDPG and Gamma drive so I passed there.
Funny that I'm not even using drive pedals any more.
Been using the HSD as primary and on one passage of a song kicking in the DSOMD to add some girth.

Have not had the chance to mess with the Sunbather yet. Way too busy.
May just be for home use if the Trace works as I hope.

Is the BDPG OCD based? Mine sounds literally nothing like an OCD or really a dirt pedal. It has dirt but it's SUPER fizzy and sounds very notched with regard to the dirty frequencies. That's why I don't use it, that and that I don't care for the frequencies in that notch. It was probably on of the more disappointing pedal buys I've made. If I could keep it clean, it did awesome things to the tone but that point was hard to reach and it didn't balance volume wise with anything.

I was also disappointed that the box had no clear coat. I've hardly used it and the paint of the artwork is just chipping away. I'm sure I'd love other Fuzzrocious pedals, but the BDPG was not my cup for sure.

I used a BDPG for about 2+ years as a tone shaper/thickener both in-front of and after other dirt. I got away from it when I went with a cleaner, attack-ier type of tone.

Originals right? For fun? Music is all about having fun, dressing casual and playing on 4 strings with a pick. It's the TB way!

Also, I know that TB says you shouldn't just quit your band. Work it out, try to see the other person's perspective.

Sounds familiar! Except I'm a Birkenstock guy. You pretty much nailed my attire for the wedding gig.

Have no idea what it's based on. Mine seems to be a fairly early run unit with hand paint and sparkle purple enclosure. Mostly keep it on there to make people uncomfortable. Every once in a while engage it for some darker chooch.

Also a snark tuner is a crucial piece of the rig. Gotta stay in tune and it clears space for my strymon trifecta, gigrig and all of the other odds and ends that make my board the pinnacle of universal application while simultaneously making it so complicated that I just use my amps reverb and drive channels.

If Snark or some other brand hasn't made one of those headstock clipping tuners that can fold/snap back out of sight when not in use, they should do that. I had doubts about those, they seemed so cheap, but I have 2 guitarist friend with them and they seem to work great. They just look goofy as fug when people leave them on while playing and it seems awkward to clip on and off a bunch of time.
