Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I've been posting weird videos lately...

...this is better than the original, not just because it's weird but I didn't realize how great the lyrics were hidden behind the wall of noise.

This guy's got a whole channel full of awesome banjo stoner covers, including a version of Wires (since we've been discussing Red Fang)

I'm very proud of my rig: loud, beautiful, loud, rare, loud, amazing... Oh an did I say that it's SOOOO loud ?
Now it's pedalboar time

I'm not usually an effects guy, but I think I'm looking for some. Actually my tone is very mid, with some overdrive (not too much), but I want to be able to kick a huge amout of low end and a big ball fuzz when I need to fill more space.

bluebeard fuzz if you can find one

Well my search for the biggest piece of gear seems to be at an end. Had the appraisal on a house done yesterday. Should be getting a big ol basement with no neighbors close enough to care how loud im playing!
Is the neck straight? And I would hope it's big and heavy enough for doom. Also, what tubes does it run? And how will you tune it?

Can I have an access to this thread if I post my rig?

Pretty simple for the moment, I sold pretty much anything I had (so many gear that "fits" some needs I don't have anymore.)... So let's go for a fresh start !

Huh, nice Jubilee setup there, I've been interested in those heads but they aren't easy to come by. That cab looks pretty similar to how my Peavey cab turned out after redo-ing the ports.

are people back on here again as well as the fb page?
I finally got an art install job at the photo museum in LA so it looks like I still might sell some pedals, but the basses and camera lenses aren't going anywhere.
The g&l lynx is great with the pickups raised and the broken in dunlop flats, it even gets a sweet od with the mesa d180, therefore the pedals are back to only being
used to juice up the ss heads at the practice space or for noise work. Still haven't gotten together with the pro organ session player, this guy is always busy
trying to hustle for work, I hope he gets a steadier gig soon so we can put some music down, he only lives 2 miles from me.

I feel ya man, bought a house just recently and it's been so awesome and soothing to be able to crank it and get lost in some jams. As nice as working through a piece is, nothing beats the feel of going up to 11 and playing some riffs.

Oh for sure Dude I owned two houses that allowed me to crank up everything over the top including drums, we could do all night but usually had nothing left by 3am.

Any recommendations for a low gain Rat? I don't want anything with fizz, as that's why I got rid of the Blower Box. I tried out a cheap mini Rat clone on bass today, and it gave me the itch for a better one.

For clarification's sake, by low gain I mean LOW gain. The clone's gain was only at 9 when I got the tones I liked. Anything more and it got too trebly too quick.

Fuzzrocious Dark Driving. Sounds good all the way up and down the gain range, and has the bass boost if you need it.

Awesome OD. I've had limited time with it, but the "classic" or original mode is identical to a 250 which I've had for a couple years. Unbelievably full sound and the more you crank the gain, the more low end seems to get added IMO. That and if you go high enough it's starts to get into fuzz territory.

So last week I went with a friend to try his gear and some more gear, to find out more about tone adaptability of my Thunderbird.
Tried the Ampeg SVT-7, a 810 Ampeg cab(made in China), a 215 Bassman cab(i think) by Fender and some basses, the G&L tribute with HBs, a Rickenbacker 4001, no-name P-bass and my Thunderbird.

I must say all the other basses killed the TB in terms of tonal flexibility, best to me was of course the Rick.
Regarding cabs, I liked the bottom from the 215 cab, while the 810 was almost twice louder it had a more punchy sound which is good for slapping i think.
To be honest I felt like I have to completely change my gear, get another bass with more "cling" in it, and get me another head and cab... on the way home I had these plans on buying a SVT-CL, a 215 cab and a P-bass which would cost me A LOT.

But then I went to my band's practice room and switched on my gear.

And I was blown away on how good it sounded compared to what I heard during my comparison.
I have a Peavey Tour700 head and a TVX410 cab, this combo destroyed the Ampeg and all those sounds I was trying to get out of it.
My low expense rig(along with a cheap guitar amp booster) is staying put, it works damn well for what I need now.

Maybe the only thing I'd add is a Fender/Squier Jaguar bass, they sell them at a ridiculous price of 240€, and the bass seems well made and good sounding.

Ok, that's enough for sunday, gotta get out a bit.

Cheers
