Could you recommend a good 1x15 cab for doom?

My doom/crust rig is a pair of TL606 1x15s with Eminence 3015 kappalites. It's pretty easy to find those basic boxes with [whatever speaker] in them, and once you factor in selling off the random speaker the cabs should be fairly cheap. Mine are Joe's because you see those around the upper East Coast, but there are all sorts of options within that same cab design.

Right now I have the ports plugged because low C felt a little weak with the cabs running normally. But now I'm wondering if I actually need the extra bass boost...

I also think the guy's silly costume takes away from the brilliance of him playing one of the Dopesmoker guitar solos on a cello, but Goddamn, he's playing it on an electric cello and it's rad:

The silly costume is homage to the other album cover...

Cello-man is close, but he missed the mark. He's got an antenna coming out of his backpack, when the intent of the device is clearly for smoking. It's a backpack-waterpipe.

There's two more videos of him performing Dopesmoker in full with a group, one is bass/cello/drums and the other is bass/cello/drums/upright bass.

This happened yesterday at practice. Seriously sounds amazing. All my dirt pedals sound amazing through it: phat phuk b, supercolider, longsword and model fet. Still havent tried the da120 through it yet at full volume....but sooon.

Hey any of you Doom Stoners ever played a semi hollow bass through fuzz and or overdrive?. Im thinking of getting a semi hollow for messing around with but if it produced decent Doom tones I will use it with my band. Im asking here because I dont know if the music shop will put up with me detuning their semi hollow to C and asking for their fuzz and overdrive pedals.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I have a feeling that as long as it has a block in it and it's not too hollow you wouldn't need to worry about uncontrollable feedback. Some is good, too much and I'm not a fan personally.

This is the only reference I have to go on otherwise but its pretty damn convincing.

Just leave it in standard tuning and let it rip. It should still give you a good idea of what to expect.

Don't forget, the bass in the above vid is a short scale with flats.

Thanks for sharing, SYC has some nice similarities to a great Polish band called Spaceslug.

Love both of those bands! I really dig SYC, and red fang has been a fav of mine for a while.

I don't really know Red Fang's music but I saw them live a few years ago, opening for Opeth I think.
They were a great band, so full of energy and clearly having a blast. Really enjoyed their set
